  • Please inform us of your accommodation and contact details (phone number and email address) for the day prior to the tour. If the tour is canceled, customers will be notified by the conducting company or their travel agent. The National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English- or Chinese-speaking) may contact you the day before departure.
  • There is a risk of altitude sickness as oxygen is thinner than on the lowlands. In addition, as the weather and temperature can change suddenly, consulting with your doctor in advance is recommended for those who have any health concerns while mountain climbing. Please be sure to take care of your physical condition before departure such as by getting enough sleep and avoiding hangovers.
  • Since the creation of a participant name list is required for safety purposes, we ask that all participants please provide their names and emergency contact details on the first day of the tour.
  • Mountain accident insurance is not included in this tour. (Customers of non-Japanese nationality are unable to enroll in Japanese mountain accident insurance.) We recommend customers enroll in overseas travel insurance before leaving their country.
  • The purpose of this course is to see the sunrise from Mt. Fuji, so all participants will climb to a mountain hut accommodation above the 7th station on Day 1. Participants may be unable to see the sunrise from the mountain due to weather or crowding on the mountain path, but please understand that these will not be accepted as reasons for a refund.
  • Generally the tour will be carried out even in the case of rain, but in the case of bad weather at Mt. Fuji the tour conductors and mountain guide will determine whether to halt the tour with first consideration to safety. Also, the above times, climbing time, route, and arrival times may vary greatly depending on weather and crowding conditions. Please be aware that refunds will not be issued even in case of cancellation partway through the tour.
  • Only the customers themselves know their own physical condition. For those who start to feel unwell while mountain climbing, please do not exert yourself and inform the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter. Depending on your condition, please take a break, or stop mountain climbing. In addition, please follow any guidance or instructions from the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter.
  • Customers may stop mountain climbing due to poor physical condition and stay or take a rest at a mountain hut other than the one planned for accommodation on that day, but in this case, customers will shoulder any charges for accommodation and rest, and the tour booking charge will not be refunded. In addition, the trip down the mountain will not be accompanied by the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter, mountain guide, and Japanese-speaking tour conductor.
  • Charges are required for toilets between Mt. Fuji 5th Station and the summit. Please prepare enough coins. Charges are also required even at the mountain hut accommodation. Approx. JPY 50-300 each time.
  • If you are late for the Day 2 departure from Mt. Fuji Lake Kawaguchi 5th Station (scheduled at around 11:30, to be determined on Day 2 of the tour), you will be responsible for the transportation costs to your next destination.
  • The Mt. Fuji entrance fee (environmental conservation fee) and toll fee is included in the tour booking price.
  • Yamanashi Prefecture regulations prohibit people with tattoos from bathing in hot springs. Customers with tattoos are unable to bathe at Benifuji-no-Yu.

Fuji are approx. 2,300 m at the 5th Station; approx. 3,000 m at the 7th Station mountain hut where the tour will stop to sleep for a short period; and approx. 3,500 m at the peak, where temperatures often fall below 5 degrees Celsius and the temperature difference compared to the 5th Station may be more than 15 degrees Celsius. Overall this is a great experience and would highly recommend doing the climb. I thought the tour guides were great and that it was very organized. My only criticism is that the group was too big. I am not sure exactly how many people it was, but it must have been about 45 people, and I think the experience would have been more enjoyable with a smaller group. I would also caution people that the sleeping arrangements are VERY uncomfortable. I would suggest bringing ear plugs and an eye mask if you are a light sleeper we got stuck with people snoring beside us and it made it pretty unbearable.

that was a great time! Thank for everyone who led us and gave us such a great opportunity. I wish it was less smogy so we could see Fuji from the side, but walking above the clouds and below the stars was amazing. Never breathed an air as tasty as at the top of Fuji!

Viator contracted the local tour operator. They were incredible...caring folks that explained everything and had all logistics (transpo, trail, hut, food) taken care of. Hike was slow but ensured everyone that could hike did make it. Sunrise made it all worth it. Prepare to spend $5-$6 p/ bottle of water if you don't bring enough. Have gear necessary for 3 kinds of weather (cold, hot, wet)...we hit all three in our trip. Met great folks from around the world...0 complaints. Must do experience....this will thrust you into Japanese culture.

Excellent tour. Our tour guides Yoko and Yuki from JTB - Sunrise Tours were fantastic! Simple, easy and we all had a great time. I would definitely recommend to anyone planning on climbing Mt. Fuji. Yoko spoke very good English and both called and faxed our hotel in the days before the climb to make sure we had all the right equipment and knew when and where we needed to meet the bus. They picked us up at the hotel on time, made all the arrangements, kept the group moving and on schedule, and were very good at informing the group about what was going on and what we needed to do at all times. We had 16 people with two tour guides and a mountain guide (once we reached Fuji), so it was a good ratio of hikers to guides. The hot springs afterwards were OK. If you have tattoos - like me - you are not allowed in most Japanese public baths. But more importantly, after Fuji you are simply wiped out and just want to go back to the hotel, shower and rest. We had two hours scheduled but everyone was done within an hour. So if you have the option to do the two day climb without the hot springs, I would opt for that. And of course the climb itself was fantastic. The weather was wonderful and very clear at the top. But don't be fooled, the climb was very arduous (and I hike and run marathons) and the descent was very tough. Don't take the physical part for granted. We saw a number of people really struggling and simply totally unprepared. Bring the equipment they recommend, even if it seems like overkill - it gets windy and cold especially in the hours before dawn. Have a great trip!

Charlene G, Aug 2014
We recently did the 2 day Mt. Fuji sunrise hike with JTB Sunrise Tours (organized by Viator) and were generally happy with services. Heres the pros and cons: Pros 1) Tour was well organized 2) Tour leader spoke English fluently 3) Tour was worth the cost/fees charged Cons 1) We took breaks every 20 minutes 2) They insisted that we walk extremely slow 3) They insisted that we walk in a single file line for much of the trail 4) It was not clear in the advertisements that you all need to meet in one hotel (i.e. JTB is not going to pick you up) Overall, we had a great time. The mountain hut was clean and comfortable and the overall feeling of being at Mt. Fuji was exciting. There are a few things worth noting, which are beyond the control of JTB. First, the mountain was packed. There were literally thousands of people on the trail and at times there were traffic jams where you had to wait 30 seconds between each step. Next, it rained for the last 5 hours of the hike. As such, it was cold and windy and there was no sunrise to see. Fortunately JTB had arranged/reserved a room in the mountain hut where we had soup for 25 minutes before heading down. After descending from the mountain, the tour visits a natural hot springs spa. In Japanese culture, participants partake naked. While we were skeptical at first, we actually found the natural springs to be incredibly relaxing and well worth it.

The tour was perfect, the English speaking guide really knew her stuff. It's very cold at the top, don't forget hats and gloves! The whole experience was fantastic and one which we will never forget. This trip was in the first week of our three week honeymoon, cannot recommend it highly enough!

Very professional and personal experience. Weather was poor so no sun rise visible - emphasised the need to be led by experienced guides. To quote...., this experience / achievement was "priceless"!

Matthew C, Sep 2012
The only part of the tour that we were dissapointed with was the hot springs after the climb. We were told by Viator to bring our bathingsuit and towels when in fact, in Japan the hotsprings are used naked. We were not comfortable with this and therefore did not go into the hotsprings. This was VERY dissapointing to us and had we known we would have chosed a different trip. Our tour guide was understanding but there was nothing she could do except tell us to complain to Viator. You really shouldnt tell your customers the wrong information. We will not be booking with you again.
