What To Expect

As the former summer residence of the powerful Habsburg dynasty, the UNESCO-listed Schönbrunn Palace is considered by many as one of Europe’s most stunning baroque structures.

Step inside the palace after the official closing time of the palace with your entrance ticket and begin your audio tour on your own smartphone. Enjoy a self-guided exploration of the guest apartments, along with the lavish decor of Emperor Franz Joseph’s quarters. As the former summer residence of the powerful Habsburg dynasty, Schönbrunn is considered by many as one of Europe’s most beautiful baroque palaces. Explore the UNESCO-listed site from the west wing, with the apartments of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Elizabeth, through to the State Wing. Continue to the guest apartments, with their richly ornate décor, and then take a turn around the Franz Karl Apartments, which were once occupied by the emperor’s parents.

After having worked up an appetite, make your way to a restaurant within walking distance of the Palace to savor three courses of delicious Austrian fare (drinks available for purchase).

Appetites sated, continue to the Orangery Schönbrunn for your classical music concert. Take your seat in your chosen ticket category and enjoy a performance from the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra, accompanied by a soprano and baritone as well as two ballet dancers. Hear famous arias and overtures by Strauss and Mozart, such as Radetzkymarsch, Don Giovanni, and Le Nozze di Figaro.

1- the guided tour was good 2- the food course was tasteless, really bad. Beverages not included, even water. 3- seating for the concert was far behind without a music program which was also not included. Of all my experiences this was a real rip-off.

However, we must clarify that on all platforms it is clearly communicated that beverages are not included, and in Austria, water is also not typically served for free at the table. Additionally, if you were seated farther back, it may have been because you purchased the C-ticket category, which is the furthest from the stage but also the most economical. If you wish to enjoy the concert closer in the future, we recommend purchasing any of the other three categories that are closer to the stage. Regarding the music program, as with any classical music concert in Vienna, there is always an additional cost. We also regret that you did not enjoy the dinner; however, it is a traditional Austrian menu with high-quality ingredients, and we work with the best restaurants in the area, so we do not usually receive complaints about the menu. We apologize for any disappointment you experienced and appreciate your feedback. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Excellent audio tour, concert and dinner

The Palace staff were very helpful when 1 of our party was suffering and went off to get a wheelchair for us to use. It was a shame the restaurant was so far away, we took a while to get there and the guide had to go on ahead with the rest of the tour and come back for us. Dinner was very good and the waiters were very accommodating. The concert itself was very good

Lovely for a little taste of Vienna

Despite some of the reviews we saw, we took a chance on this event and didn’t regret it. We all thoroughly enjoyed the private walk through the palace after hours and the walk to the restaurant was very pleasant as well. The food and service was great and my entire family really loved it! The concert was beautiful and it was lovely to experience in that setting.

The tour guide didn’t...

The tour guide didn’t explain anything and the tour was short and didn’t include everything. The walk to dinner was challenging to follow the tour over and the food was not edible. Our group could not eat anything. The meat was impossible to chew and we had to get dinner after the concert. We paid far too much for such an average experience.

Quiet and peaceful tour of Schonbrunn

It was wonderful to stroll through the Palace without a crowd. The dinner was very good with nice service, though our group arrived at the restaurant before they were ready to seat us, so we waited in an odd kitchen-ish area - only discovered later that the guides had brought us in by a back door. Concert was good - would love to have been offered a program.

The dinner took way too long. There was 0 time to visit the garden

The exclusive palace visit was great. But there was no time to visit the garden. The waiting time for the dinner was too long, which caused me to completely loose the chance to take photos in the garden. I regretted to include the dinner in the package so much. The concert was OK.

Unusually Hot

The tour at night was nice because it wasn’t crowded. The staff at the palace was helpful and pleasant. Be warned it was exceptionally hot out and the palace was not air conditioned and brutally hot. The restaurant was about a 10 minute walk in the heat. The food was adequate and they did have a vegetarian option. The concert in the Orangerie was also exceptionally hot and we only stayed for about half of it.

First time in Vienna.

I will go directly to the concert skipping the afterhours tour and the lousy dinner. The concert was excellent! Musicians and singer were great and enjoyable. However, the audio tour was bad: you are being followed all the time by a guard that only wants to get you out there as soon as possible. They even turned off the fans and room were very hot. If you want to visit the palace just go during regular hours. Then you are asked to walk several blocks to the restaurant where the fixed menu was very poor. Then you have to walk again to the concert hall outside the palace.

Great experience/Tour Guides not so much

The self guided tour and concert were great. We went to a local restaurant for dinner as part of the VIP package we purchased and were seated away from the rest of the group doing the guided tour and we were left at the restaurant, not knowing where to go for concert. We walked all the way back down to the palace and them someone selling tickets told us where to go. We had no interaction with the tour guides at all.

do not buy a package deal

Let me start by saying that the concert was great, and the music fantastic. This was a hugely redeeming feature of the event. the rest... The tour was short and audio guide explanations very brief and not complete. You can purchase such tour from the venue for a very small fraction of what Viator charged us. The dinner was straightforward bad (in a package deal I would settle for mediocre, but it was plain bad). Also we had to walk to a dinner place for 20 min under rain with no umbrellas provided. Bottom line - you are better off purchasing parts of the package separately.

Concert great, the rest of the trip a disappointment

Firstly I should say that the concert itself was fabulous. The setting, inside the palace, the orchestra and the singers were all superb, and we thoroughly enjoyed this part of the evening. If it was just the concert being rated I would give it 5 stars. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was not so great. The after hours audio tour was 30 mins. This was simply not enough time to appreciate the magnificent surroundings and we felt rushed. This was because the meal, advertised as within walking distance, was a 30 minute hike. and a 30 minute walk back after the meal - which meant around an hour of our evening was spent walking, which to be honest was not what we expected. The meal was a set 3 courses, no options. I had expected for this sort of money to get some choice of menu. I don't expect an a la carte menu, but if you hadn't liked any of the dishes, there was no alternative. the food was well cooked, but again it was rushed because we knew we had a walk back to the palace for the concert. So, in summary, the concert was fabulous, the rest of the evening a disappointment and not value for money.

Regarding the restaurant, while it is not inside the palace, it is not 30 min away. The restaurant is 9 min away from the main entrance of the palace. And 3 minutes from the Orangerie, where the concerts are usually held. Only on some special evenings, the concert is held in the Grand gallery (inside of the palace), so guests after dinner must return to the palace (9 minutes again). The palace tour lasts between 30 to 45 minutes, but it depends on the speed of the group, as some people rush a bit, and therefore the whole group rushes with them. We are very sorry to hear that you had a short time in the palace. A memorial visit to Vienna.

The After-Hours Tour of the Palace was uncrowded. The dinner and dessert were delicious. It was the only time we had apple strudel on the entire 3-week trip in Europe. The Conductor really interacted with the audience and the orchestra and opera singers were so professional. It was a lively concert. The only negative, the tour guide lead us to the restaurant from the palace. She walked as though she did not care if we were able to keep up with her.

Sub-par dinner, but tour and concert fine

Dinner (Joseph restaurant) was sub-par and drinks were extra. Concert was good. After hours tour of the Palace used audio recordings, available in multiple languages. It would have been nice to have brought earphones.
