    Not a cultural tour
    Marcia_A, Feb 2024
The view on Waiheke Island is magnificent but this is not a cultural experience. We saw a Maori welcome hut but could not go in because no one was there to welcome us. As we traversed the island we were told about Māori rituals and life but saw nothing in person. Justine, our tour guide, was fantastic - she showed us the island and told us all about the customs - but that is not at all what we expected. The day before we toured Auckland on the same kind of tour for 1/4th the price. That is what this tour was worth.
    Response from Host, Feb 2024
I am sorry you feel this way about your experience Marcia. I note you believed you should have been able to go onto the Marae - you cannot just walk onto a community Marae you need to go through a formal welcome known as a powhiri and it is not a place that is staffed ready for visitors . Our cultural experience tour seeks to educate about Te Ao Maori, Maori history on the island and to explain about the uniquely bicultural nation we are and our evolution as a nation from the arrival of Maori to the impact of colonisation through to today. We are proud of our product and the knowledge, training and skill our guides, both Maori and Pakeha have in presenting this tour to our guests and as evidenced here we usually get excellent reviews.
