      Your Wētā Workshop Experience will start at the Wētā Cave store located on the corner of Weka Street and Camperdown Road, Miramar, Wellington. Please allow enough time to find a carpark, as spaces are limited.

    • Most travelers can participate
    • Photography is strictly prohibited in all tour spaces, unless specified by the tour guide.
    • Collapsible wheelchairs with removable wheels can be accommodated providing the passenger is accompanied by someone who can assist them on board and disembark.
    • There is no luggage storage in the Weta Cave or at our tour spaces.
    • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 15 travelers

    Cancellation Policy

    You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

    • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
    • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
    • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
    • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

    Our tour guide .A young woman , was excellent . She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions . Great to get some insight into the intensity , time involved workmanship and creativity involved in production.
    Well worth the price and time needed.

    We really enjoyed learning how all of this creative talent comes together to make incredible images look real and transform actors into characters. The exhibit and guided tour are filled with informative and interesting things to see and hear. I would recommend anyone interested in the behind the scenes creativity that goes into movie making visit this Workshop.

    It was interesting to hear from the owners and get our pictures taken outside attacking the trolls with swords but otherwise, it was not much more than what you would see in the additional info when you view a DVD of a special effects movie.

    Very informative tour with a great tour guide (Louisa? - apologies if not). It was so interesting to see how props/costumes were made. We were so impressed with the Gallipoli figure, we went and saw the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa Museum which was amazing!

    Interesting, great tour guide. But we actually expected there to be so much more to see. Fun to take pictures with the trolls outside the studio, you can even borrow swords to improve the pics. Watching actual swords being created was cool.

    Neither my husband nor I are Lord of the Rings fans but felt a visit to New Zealand wouldn’t be complete without a LotR experience. We are film enthusiasts and thought we’d appreciate the art and skill of the workshop. It was a fabulous experience. Our guide Flynn was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The videos showed during the tour were terrific. Two thumbs up!

    What an outstanding tour! From the many different departments, the props themselves, and amazing tour guides, this was everything we hoped for and more. Definitely worth the stop. Ask the tour guides all the questions you can, their stories really made this. PLUS you get to meet actual employees of Weta. Truly incredible tour!

    The make up room room featuring the actor's face being transformed for various roles. The grandchildren loved it all especially the room displaying the characters from the films.

    I enjoyed seeing the swords and armor from the movies. The prosthetics was interesting. Not sure if I would recommend because it was not what I expected.

    Seeing the actual props and costumes from the movie was awesome. Watching the giant 3D printing and the mould making process was cool. One of the other tour guides spoke so loudly - I could hear him over our tour guide and TV - he was very enthusiastic though. Ppl w/ ADHD would find that hard. Found the tour group size a bit big, I felt I was in the way Would have loved more vids of the beloved LOTR characters and their prosthetic process etc

    What a great activity a peak behind the scenes of one of the worlds most creative teams. Not only do you get to see the how they accomplished such feats you get to meet some of the actual contributors!

    The information about the amount of projects that Weta workshop have been involved in and all the different departments and what gets made. The only thing is that their was a lot of standing around and talking to some people while we had to wait for the group ahead of us to move on, so we became a little bored. Apart from that we were very amazed with what is produced at Weta workshop.

    Great experience for Hobbit & LOTR fan. Extremely knowledgeable guide & presenters on tour. Unfortunately, but understandably, picture opportunities on tour very limited, but there was a photo opportunity at end. Highly recommended!
