Overview

A Must Do

The view of the coast and the sea lions were amazing! We got to watch sea lions in the natural habitat. We also got to walk up to a light house. Our tour guide Michael made us feel like family. He was the best!!!

Great potential, but overall an average trip.

This was a trip with a great itinerary and a great guide that did not live up to its potential. The trip was to include a cheese tasting, but upon arrival at the cheese maker, no tasting was provided. The single wine tasting was lackluster and inexplicably did not include a single Pinot Noir. The vineyard is noted for its Pinot Noirs. The lunch provided by the vineyard was excellent and one of the highlights of the trip. The dinner meal was very poor. Pub food.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts James and sorry to hear the experience did not live up to expectation. C'est Cheese welcome guests to try before they buy if interested. It seems this wasn't explained well to you on your tour so my apologies. For guests wanting a full cheese tasting experience we offer Martinborough Foodie Half Day and Martinborough Foodie & Winery Tour options which include shared cheese platters. Platters aren't an option on a the Wine and Wild Coast Tour which is already a fully packed 10 hour tour. Poppies is probably better known for their Rose and aromatic wines but the region itself is certainly a pinot region. At time of writing Poppies is sold out of their 2022 Pinot Noir and didn't make a 2023 vintage due to the incredibly wet summer. As a result there is no pinot noir on the tasting. Of course you can still opt for a glass of local pinot noir with your lunch (included) which is from Martinborough but not Poppies. Your dinner option was in the Lake Ferry Hotel which is a remote region of the Wairarapa and is classic Kiwi country pub food as advertised. Amazing fish n chips with a beautiful view over the lake and fascinating history on the walls of the hotel that dates back to the 1850s and a great fit for the rugged, rural 2nd half of the tour.

A fantastic well-paced tour filled with a variety of cultural, historical and culinary experiences. Highlights were seeing the fur seals and the incredible lunch at Poppies Winery. Phil was a great host ; as a passionate local, he shared his knowledge of the area and did so with plenty of good humor. I highly recommend this tour.

A fabulous day all round. Great blend of nature and indulgence with nature walk, chocolate tasting, wine tasting and delicious platter for lunch, coastal drive with stops along the way including viewing of seals in their natural habitat and a walk up to the lighthouse, followed by dinner at an iconic pub before being driven home by our driver - Phil. Epic day and would highly recommend it.

Wonderful Tour!

What a great tour! Simon was wonderful as our tour guide. The tour itself exceeded our expectations. We went to a cheese shop followed by a sampling chocolate at another store and then lunch /wine tasting at vineyard. All delicious! The “wild” part of the tour was after lunch when we headed to the coast and saw seals followed by a visit to the Cape Palliser Lighthouse. We finished the tour with dinner at the Lake Ferry Hotel. Overall an excellent tour and highly recommended.

Long day but worth it

Phil provides excellent commentary between stops. This tour is a very full 10 hours that covers a lot of stops and a variety of activities. It gives you exposure to wines, chocolates and the terrain of the southern and southeastern parts of North island.

Fun filled day in Wellington and the surrounding areas!

Had a fun day of wine and chocolate tasting and stopped at the C’est cheese. The wine tasting and lunch was delicious and the chocolate tasting was super fun! We made several stops along the coastal parts surrounding the Wellington. We packed alot in one day so it perfect for folks stopping in Wellington for a short 1-2 days only. We accomplished and saw alot in one day!! Would highly recommend the tour

Exceptional tour

Exceptional day -- yes day! Only one winery but without a doubt, an exceptional tour of New Zealand from Wellington to the southern most point lighthouse on the South Island. Nice stops to experience local foods and wines. And Michael was informative and entertaining for all 10 hours!!

Great Wine tasing and Wild Coast tour!

We had a great time on this trip. It was a very small group (3 of us), and Michael took us to a variety of places to taste wine, have wonderful meals (both lunch and dinner), and see the sights along the Wild Coast. At Poppie’s we were hosted by Poppie, who had some very fine wines for us to tase. We got to see seals relaxing and frolicking along the shore, and experienced the varied landscapes along the way. Highly recommended!

Great day trip of surrounding Wellington areas

Went on this tour as part of my wife and I’s honeymoon and had a blast. Paul was a great host, and we got to experience so much of the city’s surroundings that we wouldn’t have gotten to see otherwise. Going from rainforest to wine region to coast all in a single day was an absolute treat.

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide, Michael, was knowledgeable, personable, and friendly. He was also quite flexible with what we wanted to see, and had much to offer in the way of history, trivia, and humour. It was a really wonderful way to experience a bit of the area and what it had to offer. I would definitely recommend doing this tour, especially with Michael.
