Overview

Escape the city for the wild landscapes of the Yorkshire moors on this full-day tour from York. Set out on a scenic drive through the North York Moors National Park; visit sites from the 'Harry Potter' movies in Goathland like the location used for Hogsmeade station in the first film. Enjoyable and informative

This small group tour allowed for a lot of flexibility in the schedule. We were able to pull over for quick spontaneous photo ops and saw much more than the posted itinerary promised. The steam train ride from Goathland Station to Whitby was a special bonus treat! Barry was a helpful and informative driver/tour leader (although it made me nervous to see him reading the script as he drove!). With our group's permission, he took a more rural route back to the city, showing us additional areas and still getting us back on time. This was definitely a great way to see parts of North Yorkshire that I wouldn't have seen on my own!

Thescenery of the moors and being almost alone at byland abbey was worth the day out- made even better by a short steam train ride. Well organised and a great guide .

This was a great tour! We got to see so many different areas surrounding York. There was also a train ride which was very nice and lots of history. Our driver Ben was very knowledgeable and made the trip even more fun. Definitely recommend this tour!

Not a memorable outing

Overall a mediocre experience. The driver/guide was very good, but the agenda was not stellar, and with a full van, somewhat uncomfortable. The portion on the steam train to Whitby was a let down, as the train was overcrowded (many people standing), and the cars filthy. The highlight was Whitby Abbey, which is not even part of the tour cost.

The guide/commentary. JohnS gave a most interesting, entertaing and informative commentary the whole time that we were pottering through the most attractive countryside. Giving us background on the area and its' features, history and and some more quirky snippets. Clear information on where to go for the best appreciation of views and clear instructions on returning to the bus. The trip on the North Moors railway was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. Thoroughly enjoyable. We recommend it heartily!

The views, Byland Abbey and at scenic spots in Farnland. Whitby stop could have been longer or adding a stop at a local farm shop to try the famed Yorkshire dairy products. Our guide was knowledgeable on geology and local history.

Great way to get to many places

Great trip hosted by our driver Trevor. He was so knowledgeable, knows the history of the area really well, gives good tips to enjoy the day is flexible and accommodating. Took my 70 year old mum, who is hard of walking, he helped her lots. Great way to cover a vast space and get to enjoy it as a passenger so you don’t miss it all when driving, highly recommend

Great tour for solo travelers like me

Excellent tour and would recommend highly. On a solo trip to York, it was a near last minute decision to join the tour, and I’m glad I did. An excellent tour guide and driver, John was informative, efficient and friendly. The tour took us to the countryside of Yorkshire and small towns, which I would not have been able to explore on my own. All in all, John created a friendly ambiance and I would strongly recommend this small tour for those traveling solo.

Absolutely stunning scenery. Lots of great photo stops with a couple of longer coffee breaks and a nice long lunch break in Whitby. Trevor, our guide, was terrific. Incredibly knowledgeable and kept a great pace with everything.

John was a fabulous guide and took us to Byland Abby which was stunning!! He also took us on a back road to a beautiful old church dating back to Anglo Saxon time! Unbelievable! And if things couldn’t get any better, the moors were breathtaking and then we reached Whitby. We had 2 1/2 hours in Whitby and it was perfect. Really need to thank John for his attention to detail, and so much history that we learned along the way. One of our best outings while on this trip. Highly recommend!

Great day out

Our driver / guide was amazing. He was so interesting and knowledgeable and was able to answer every question. I enjoyed Whitby and the Abbey but the stops at Pickering, Helmsley and Goathland station were interesting. It was nice to get off the bus and stretch our legs regularly.
