Visitors can spend the morning wandering the beautifully landscaped grounds, then tuck into traditional high tea at the hotel’s classic cafe. After strolling through the rose gardens, visitors can stop at the art and antiques gallery before sipping a glass of fine wine from the cellar door. Visitors can also book a stay at the on-site accommodations, which include views of the vineyards and garden. The property also hosts art exhibitions throughout the year.
The chateau rests on Ngadjuri land; tours with a Ngadjuri Elder and aboriginal guide through the gardens are available.
One of Australia's most extensive porcelain collections is found at the Barossa Chateau, with pieces from the early 18th and 19th centuries.
Lyndoch, where the chateau is located, is in the Barossa Valley, a well-known wine region home to several wineries.
Barossa Chateau is located at the corner of Barossa Valley Way and Hermann Thumm Drive in Lyndoch. Located just an hour’s drive from Adelaide, you can reach the chateau via the Northern Connector (part of route M2), which will bring you into Barossa via the Gomersal Road turn-off. You can reach Barossa Valley by taking an Adelaide Metro train from Adelaide Railway Station to Gawler Central, where you transfer via a local bus, but driving is more convenient.
The chateau is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am–3:30pm. Generally, the best time to explore Barossa Valley is in the fall during harvest (March–May). This is when the weather is usually mild but sunny, and the Barossa Vintage Festival also takes place during this time.
Situated on the edge of the Barossa Valley, Lyndoch generally does not experience the tourist traffic like some of the bigger towns in the area, giving it a relaxing atmosphere. In addition to the chateau, you’ll also find Lyndoch Lavender Farm, where you can stroll through the fragrant fields and wineries, including Burge Family Winemakers, Kies Family Wines, and Cimicky Wines.
