The basics

Inside the Portuguese colonial farmhouse, large wooden beams crisscross the ceilings, and historic photos, paintings, and knick-knacks are on display, telling the story of the state capital city. The shaded grounds are home to an antique stagecoach, a cable car, and a 19th-century steam train set among walking paths in a tropical garden. The museum hosts a variety of short-term and long-term exhibitions that focus on different aspects of the city's history and culture, which visitors can explore on their own. In addition, it also offers cultural and educational events.
