Ghetto Museum (Muzeum Ghetta)

Komenskeho 148, Terezín, Bohemia, 411 55

The basics

The Ghetto Museum is housed in Terezín’s former school building. It contains two permanent exhibits: one on Terezín’s place in the Nazi’s Final Solution and another dedicated to the children who lived and passed through this ghetto. Children’s poems and drawings are displayed on the walls in a heartbreaking tribute to the youngest victims of the Nazis at Terezín. Most travelers visit the Ghetto Museum in Terezín independently, as the town is easy to reach from Prague and see the other Nazi-related sites around the fortress town.

Things to know before you go

  • Aside from the Ghetto Museum, there aren’t many visitor facilities in Terezín, which–given its history–has rather an abandoned, haunted air. You can find more facilities at nearby Litomerice.

  • You can purchase different ticket options at Terezín: the more expensive options give you access to all parts of the Terezín Memorial complex.

  • The Ghetto Museum is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Guided tours can be arranged by booking the day before.

Visit Prague’s Jewish Museum

One of Prague’s most popular museums is the Jewish Museum, which documents and commemorates Prague and the present-day Czech Republic’s Jewish inhabitants and history. While the Jewish population was decimated in World War II, there was once a distinct and flourishing Jewish culture here. The museum is in Josefov, the former Jewish ghetto, and is near the Old Jewish Cemetery.
