Greenmarket Square

City Centre, Cape Town, 8000

The Basics

In addition to vendors selling their wares, Greenmarket Square is home to the Old Town House (one of South Africa’s oldest buildings) and the Gothic-revival Central Methodist Mission. You may also want to visit some of the restaurants and cafés that spill out onto the cobblestone streets. If you book a comprehensive sightseeing tour of Cape Town, it will most likely include a visit to the square.

Delicious
Zuzy shared both historical and gastronomical stories with us. The food was delicious, the portions were huge, and the experience was enlightening. Zuzy was a delightful guide! We highly recommend this tour.

  • Though friendly, vendors can sometimes seem aggressive when selling their wares. If you're not interested, a polite but firm "No, thank you" should suffice.

  • Bring cash if you think you may want to buy something: It’s a great spot for cheap souvenirs.
