Navua River Village and Kava Ceremony

Viti Levu

The basics

The villagers of Nukusere—which was once set on the shores of the Navua River, but is now further inland after the original location was flooded during a storm—welcome guests into their community with a kava ceremony. Kava, a root that is mashed into a pulp and mixed with water, is widely considered to be the national drink of Fiji and is consumed during ceremonies and celebrations.
