Yaxhá Tours and Tickets

107 reviews

Yaxhá was founded circa 800 BC along the shores of Laguna Yaxhá, and was home to more than 40,000 people at its peak, around AD 250. Though overshadowed by Tikal, this ancient city is Guatemala’s third largest archaeological site. And since it’s less visited than its famous sibling, Yaxhá offers a peaceful, introspective experience—especially for birders and Maya aficionados.

Absolutely Wonderful Experience
This was a last minute decision and I am so happy we decided to book this private tour! Everything was just perfect. From the lunch to the personalized tour. Our driver was very safe and our guide, Miguel Antonio was full of knowledge. I hadn’t heard about Yaxha before visiting Flores and had the best time in the ancient Mayan archeological site. Worth the visit

Great guides and staff!
Great tour. Both guides very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely bring hiking boots or very sturdy shoes. Pack a rain jacket too because it just sometimes starts to rain. The views from the temples and pyramids are spectacular Climb them all if you can. Bring a lot of water- two tall bottles each. The sites offer drinks and the prices are high. The hotel Villa de Maya is very nicely maintained with friendly staff. It is a bit secluded and not on the island of Flores. They do offer transport for a fee. The restaurant serves amazing food. I would take this excursion again.

One of the best tours I've taken - beautiful site and wonderful guide
Elmer is an exceptional guide, one of the best I've had in any country. He is passionate about archaeology in all cultures, a passion that goes far beyond the sites where he leads tours. If you have visited archaeological or architectural sites in other countries, you can exchange travel stories with him and you will find an excellent listener and audience. He is patient, polite, curious, and full of interesting facts about ancient Mayan culture. He taught me a few phrases in Spanish and I taught him a few in English, which made us both very happy since we are both always trying to improve. He brings cold water bottles and a first-aid kit to ensure your safety during the trip. Yaxha is smaller than Tikal, but don't be fooled -- you will still sweat a lot while climbing stairs up and down to see the best views! We saw howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and were lucky enough to see a coatimundi. I recommend visiting Yaxha before Tikal, and if you book Yaxha with Elmer you may very well wish to book him again for your next tour. Gracias Elmer!
