Built in the middle of the 19th century, this historic house was originally built for one of the earliest lawyers to live in Tasmania before being purchased by Captain Charles Bayley, who named the home for his favorite ship. You can experience it by taking a guided tour of the historic Captain’s House or opt for a tour of the beautiful gardens that surround it.

How to get there

Runnymede is situated north of central Hobart, about a 10-minute drive away. If you have a car, head up National Highway 1 until you reach Bay Ride and turn right. Alternatively, take Bus 560 to stop 18, a 5-minute walk from Runnymede, or Bus 501, 503, 541, or 562 to New Town, a 10-minute walk away.

When to get there

Runnymede is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from September through June, except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, and Good Friday. Captain’s house tours start right on the hour, but arriving a few minutes before your tour starts is a good idea to ensure you have time to get situated.
