The hundreds of vehicles on display at Transport World represent decades of hard work and passion. Bill Richardson (1940–2005) was a local collector who established a transport company in the 1960s. His family opened Transport World in 2015 to share his treasure trove with the public. Besides its permanent collection, the museum often hosts special events and exhibits. Check the Transport World website to see what’s on while you’re in Invercargill.
Though most travelers visit independently, you can arrange a guided tour of Transport World with 48 hours’ notice. To save time at the entrance, buy your ticket online in advance. Or, purchase a combo ticket that includes entry to other transport-themed attractions in Invercargill, such as Classic Motorcycle Mecca and Dig This.

Kids under age 5 get free admission.
Just off State Highway 1 (SH 1), Transport World is located in the neighborhood of Hawthorndale, on the eastern side of central Invercargill. The best way to get there is by private transport.
Transport World is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with last admission at 4pm. As the weather in Invercargill can often be cold and wet, a visit to Transport World is a great rainy-day activity.
Another fun and quirky place to spend a few hours in Invercargill is Demolition World, a park constructed out of recycled items and demolished buildings. Wander around the theater, school, church, and candy store, and see the chickens and alpacas. Pack a picnic lunch if it’s a sunny day.
