You will hike 2-3 hours along the old Tokaido highway some on cobbled paths and some on forest trails between Hakone Yumoto and Lake Ashi. Some part of this path is off-the-beaten track and we normally have the forest for ourselves. This part of the Hachiri has the best preserved cobbled path and more primitive forests. You will hike past the wood crafting village of Hakone - Hatajuku and we skip the steepest part of the trail by bus and reach a teahouse that has a history of 400 years. After an energising amasake, we will continue our hike to Lake Ashi where if you are lucky, you can have a picture with Mt Fuji and the lake view. The Hakone checkpoint is our last stop where you will understand the significance of Hakone in the history of Japan. At the end of the tour, you can then catch a bus or a ferry (pirate ship) to your next destination at around 1pm.

Hakone is surrounded by steep mountains. A popular tour is hiking in one of the mountains. However, what guests would probably do is to watch their steps most of the time not to fall down or off the trails. Instead, the tour I'm offering is to walk around relatively flat areas so the guests can spend more time to look around to appreciate the nature in Hakone with proper introduction by the guide. As Hakone is in the national park, there are areas where guests are not allowed to approach for the protection of the nature. We will use compact binoculars from time to time during the tour to get clearer views of wild birds or far off spots. Guests will meet wild flowers, insects, or wild birds, some of which are unique in Hakone or Japan, and, if lucky, we may spot wild mammals such as deer, wild boars, raccoon dogs. Shichifukujin or Seven Gods of Fortune are the seven deities of Indian, Chinese and Japanese origin. They are thought to bring wealth and fortune. Visiting Shichifukujin, you get Goshuin. Goshuin is the seal of a pilgrimage shrine/ temple. At each office of the shrine/ temple, stamping a pilgrimage seal is available, including hand writing in calligraphy on the square paper-board.
