The basics

Singa Besar Island is most easily visited as part of a half-day island hopping or fishing tour, usually including other stops such as Dayang Bunting Island and Beras Basah Island. Groups can hire a private charter for up to 12 people from Langkawi. Boat tours often put on a show by throwing chicken out for eagles to catch. On the island, visitors can relax on the beach, swim or snorkel in the clear waters, or walk around. It’s also possible to camp overnight on the island with permission from the government.

Dayang Bunting Island (Pulau Dayan Bunting)

Located east of Pulau Singa Besar, Dayang Bunting Island is the second largest in the Langkawi archipelago. Its name means “Pregnant Maiden Island,” due in part to the island’s physical resemblance to a pregnant woman's belly. Legend also has it that the island’s freshwater lake, lake Guillemard, can convey fertility to women. Numerous birds call the island home, including hornbills, kingfishers, woodpeckers, and kites.
