Langkawi trip ideas
Tanjung Rhu is an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and relaxation, with an uncrowded beach and shallow waters. Amenities can be found at the two resorts and a cluster of food stalls and vendors along the beach. A variety of Langkawi sightseeing tours also include a stop at Tanjung Rhu, including boat tours through the mangroves of Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, sunset kayaking tours, vespa tours, and tours that also include other attractions such as the cable car, crafts village, and waterfalls.
There are no public restrooms. Paid toilets and showers can be found near the food stalls.
Wear sandals or other footwear, as the sand can get too hot for walking barefoot.
Bring cash, as many vendors do not accept credit cards.
Tanjung Rhu is located on the northern coast of Langkawi, around 14 miles (22 kilometers) from Kuah. Access the beach from the Jalan Tanjung Rhu road near the village of Padang Lalan, then follow the coastal road. Taxis are an easy way to access the beach. Tanjung Rhu is also included in some day tours that showcase the mangrove forests, caves, and wildlife in the area.
Visit between January and March for warm, dry weather. It’s also the high season, so expect crowds and festive holiday celebrations. Visit in September or October for peace and solitude, though expect a few hours of rain daily. Sunset is a lovely time at the beach. Visit at low tide to easily access the offshore islands.
Located east of Tanjung Rhu, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is home to ancient limestone rock formations dating back nearly 500 million years and an extensive mangrove forest along the Kilim River. Highlights include beaches, caves, islands, and a floating fish farm. A boat tour is one of the most popular ways to explore the park.
