Barefoot Park (Parque Pies Descalzos) is meant to be a sensory experience, so plan to take your shoes off and enjoy it. The Sand area features a giant sandbox filled with various rocks and sculptural elements for added interest and texture. Shaded trails wind through the Forest area, with benches where you can sit and take it all in, while the Water area—popular with visiting kids—comprises wading pools, waterfalls, and dancing fountains. You can visit the park independently or as part of a group or private Medellin city tour.
Barefoot Park is a must-visit spot for families traveling with children that need to burn off a bit of energy during the day.
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as not all areas of the park are shaded.
Bring along a small towel to wipe and dry your feet.
Families visiting the park should bring a swimsuit or change of clothes for the kids.
The easiest way to reach the park is via taxi, but if you’d prefer to travel on public transportation, take the metro to the San Antonio station. From there, it’s a short walk to the park.
With pleasant spring-like weather throughout the year, there really isn’t a bad time to visit Barefoot Park. Because water features are prominent, you’ll get the most enjoyment out of the park on a warm, sunny afternoon.
EPM, the utility company that funded the park, also operates the neighboring EPM Interactive Museum. This family-friendly facility encourages visitors to get hands-on with a series of interactive science and technology exhibits.
