A visit to Melbourne via its port allows you to see the best of the city on a shore excursion. Tours typically include port pickup and drop-off and transportation to Melbourne highlights such as Federation Square, home to numerous galleries and cafes; Eureka Skydeck, with its panoramic city views; historic buildings, such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and the State Library of Victoria; and St. Kilda, a suburb home to the quirky amusements of Luna Park.
Some excursions take you further afield to Port Phillip Bay, where you’ll find the colorful bathing boxes of Brighton Beach, and over the Mornington Peninsula and Great Ocean Road in a helicopter.
From Station Pier cruise terminal, take the 109 tram service to Melbourne CBD—the journey takes around 10 minutes. Alternatively, take a Skybus from the terminal to Spencer Street, the city’s major shopping hub.
English is the official language in Melbourne, but it is spoken with a distinctively Australian twist. The currency is the Australian dollar, and ATMs are widely available throughout the city. The port area is fairly quiet, although there is a large store selling coffee and snacks.
