The Basics
There’s plenty to entertain visitors at Maracajau Beach; ride an ATV through the dunes, enjoy water sports such as kitesurfing; or get your thrills at the beachfront Manoa water park. You can also scuba dive or snorkel at the Parrachos de Maracajaú, a cluster of islands and coral reefs located just off shore. Boat trips run out to the reefs, where floating platforms allow easy access for snorkelers and make it possible to spot a large variety of exotic fish and marine life.
Things to Know Before You Go
Entrance to the beach is free.
Beach bars and restaurants offer the use of sun loungers and parasols if you purchase food or drinks.
If taking a boat trip, be sure to bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and a hat—the boats are often open-air rafts with little to no shade.
How to Get There
Maracajaú Beach is about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Natal, and takes around 50 minutes by car along the BR-101. Local buses and shared taxis connect the beach with neighboring towns such as Caraúbas and Pititinga (both about 30 minutes away), while the twice daily buses between Natal to Zumbi also stop at Maracajau along the way (an about 2-hour journey).
When to Get There
Summer visitors should head to Maracajau Beach in the morning or late afternoon when the heat is most bearable; escape the midday sun at one of the shaded restaurants. It’s possible to dive and snorkel year-round, though visibility may decrease during the rainy season (March to May).
Manoa Park
Manoa Park—a water park and adventure activity resort located at the south end of the beach—is one of Maracajau’s biggest draws. The park has its own private beach, along with multiple swimming pools, artificial waterfalls, and water play areas. Activities include ziplining, beach volleyball, buggy rides, and boat cruises, in addition to water slides, floats, and trampolines.
