Negril trip ideas
Many of Negril’s large, raucous all-inclusive resorts line Bloody Bay, giving the beach its reputation as a round-the-clock party. In addition to sunbathing and swimming, travelers can enjoy myriad watersports, including kayaking, parasailing, paddleboarding, sailing, and scuba diving. Snorkeling is especially popular here because there is a shallow coral reef just offshore. Stops at Bloody Bay and Negril Lighthouse, which is within walking distance along the beach, are included on many tours.
Bloody Bay is roughly a 10-minute drive from Negril's center. From Norman Manley Boulevard, turn onto the side road at Breezes Grand Resort and Spa, and follow it right to the sand.
The beach is open day and night. Because Bloody Bay is on the west coast, plan to be at the beach to watch the sunset; the beach hosts one of the best parties on the island.
The origin of the bay’s macabre name is a subject for debate. Some say it’s named after a band of pirates—namely, Jack Rackham, his mistress Ann Bonny, and sidekick “Bloody Mary” Reed—who were captured at the beach. Another story says the name dates to the 1700s when whalers at the port disemboweled their catches onshore.
