Negril trip ideas
One of the earliest concrete lighthouses, this photogenic beacon was originally powered by kerosene. Now its flashing warning light is powered by the omnipresent Jamaican sun. You can walk up close to the lighthouse and to the edge of the headland where the beacon is stationed for gorgeous photo opportunities, especially at sunset. No doubt it will feature prominently in your photos while on the Negril coast.
The Negril Lighthouse is a must-see for all first-time visitors to the area.
The base of the lighthouse is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, and offers a lovely view out to the sea.
Easily accessible by taxi, the lighthouse is on West End Road, just south of Negril.
Although the lighthouse is no longer open to the public, you can still drive or walk up to it and enjoy the sea view. Jamaica is a year-round destination; beat the crowds by going in the shoulder seasons in the spring and fall.
Just down the way from the lighthouse, about a 10-minute walk north along West End Road, is another famous Negril haven, especially for lovers of sunsets. Serving revelers since 1974, Rick’s Cafe is a veritable institution. The popular bar and restaurant is legendary for reggae-fueled cocktail parties and the death-defying cliff-divers who leap off the cliffs into the deep water some 30 feet (9 meters) below.
