House of Three Worlds (Casa de los Tres Mundos)

Plazoleta de los Leones, Granada

The basics

Far more than a performance center, House of the Three Worlds was co-founded by Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal as a community center specializing in theater, fine arts, and music. It's got an all-ages graphics studio, music and art programs for kids, and opportunities for locals to create workshops, apply for residencies, and display artwork. The performance schedule varies.

It's convenient to visit the center while strolling through the city, although some visitors come as part of a tour. Group and private tours launching from Granada, Managua, and Masaya often stop in the city and nearby attractions like Masaya Volcano. Some cruise ship expeditions from San Juan Del Sur also visit Granada.

  • The center has its own radio station, Volcano Radio that runs throughout the day.

  • Even if the venue is closed, it’s worth a stop to photograph the building's colonial architecture.

  • Not all shows require paid admission, but any fees directly fund the center.
