Chichicastenango (local refers to it as Chichi) is an indigenous town in the Guatemalan Highlands where a kaleidoscope of colors takes place, is one of the largest markets in Central America, locals who come far and wide to buy and sell products also visit their loved ones in the cementary, yes we will visit the cementary. The market is full of vegetables, fruits, handcrafts, textiles, artifacts, street food.One of our principal visits is the artisanal traditional mask factory and Santo Thomas church (built in 1540) over the base of an archeological pre-Colombian temple, where we will experience the Guatemalan syncretism. We will leave around 6 a.m. from your hotel in La Antigua Guatemala and drive 3 hours to Chichicastenango.  If you don´t have breakfast included in your hotel we will stop to eat on the way (not included).  At our arrival we will walk around the market where we will see how local vendors sales their agriculture products (lots of colors, people and opportunities for great pictures here).  After that we will visit the local church where we will see people performing ceremonies inside the catholic church. Inside this church the original copy of the famous book Popol Vuh was found.  We will learn about local traditions and mayan history.  We will have time to shop around the market for people that wants to leave the market with a souvenir and before we leave back to Antigua we will have lunch at Hotel Santo Tomas (not included).  This lunch is very special because it will give you an opportunity to try several plates from all over Guatemala. Return to La Antigua  (3 hours) to end the tour.

Chichi and Pana day trip
Miguel was the best. Very informative. Provides great history. Very careful with your safety. The lake is beautiful. You should spend more than one day there. My schedule did not allow for that so this was a great trip.

Wonderful Experience
The tour started very early, our guide Gonzalo and driver David were very nice. We stopped at Katok Restaurant for restroom and coffee break, then we went to Panajachel for a quick lookout of the lake. The market was very interesting, very colorful and so much fun learning about their culture and history. The churches are amazing and we wish we had more time to spend there but otherwise great tour.
