One of the largest exhibitions of its kind, Whales of Iceland features life-size models of whale species found in Iceland's coastal waters throughout history: from a harbor porpoise to a blue whale nearly as long as a basketball court. Seeing how these mammals look up close is a family-friendly way to learn more about the vast underwater world.

Great life size samples!
The huge life size whales are amazing! I also really enjoyed the film about orcas, etc. I spent waaay more time there than I expected!

Great museum to spend a few hours in!
Great museum! I spent about 2 hours at the museum in total. The audio guide is easily accessible on your phone, just remember I take headphones with you! The audio guide took around an hour, and I spent extra time looking at the whales and grabbed a drink from the cafe. There is a film showing every few hours so you could easily spend a little longer here. Staff were helpful and friendly. This is right next to Fly Iceland so I would recommend combining the two into one trip as it is about a 20 minute walk from the centre. I would highly recommend!

Whale watching
We were so lucky to see a humpback whale breach to the side of our boat and we saw harbour porpoises too. Jonathan our guide was super knowledgeable and gave us the heads up as to where they were and what breeds were around. Thank you for the use of the warm overalls. Museum was great too, we did this in the morning, the video in the back room especially worth a watch. What a day, one that We’ll never forget! Such a privilege to see these beautiful animals up close. Thank you!

Lovely Museum and Surrounding Area
Enjoyed visiting this museum. There was a short film regarding how sound in the ocean from ships, and military navy testing impacts and damages the health of whales, was worth taking time to see. Lots of whales to see and information to find out. There is a food court nearby the museum , supermarkets, ice cream shop, and sport clothing store. If you have the time it is worth to visit the museum and surrounding area. Highly recommend it.
