Trevignano Romano

Trevignano Romano, Lazio

The basics

Trevignano Romano is easy to get around on foot, and Lake Bracciano tours include a stop in this picturesque village to wander the cobblestone lanes of the medieval quarter; check out the small, but fascinating Civic Museum in the Town Hall; and stroll the palm-fringed promenade, lined by bars and restaurants overlooking the lake. The star attraction is the hilltop Orsini Castle, a romantic ruin dating from the 13th century and offering dramatic views over the lake. In addition, you can take a dip or sail on the lake, explore the rolling countryside via the hiking and cycling trails, and relax over lunch during a day trip from Rome. You can also explore Trevignano Romano by joining a tour of central Italy’s four most beautiful lakes—Bracciano, Bolsena, Vico, and Trasimeno—or see the village from above by booking a hot air balloon flight or paragliding experience over the lake.

The Orsini Castle

One of the highlights of the village of Trevignano Romano is its 13th-century Orsini Castle, also known as the Rocca dei Vico. Not to be confused with the nearby Orsini-Odescalchi Castle—built in the 15th century and almost perfectly preserved—the Orsini Castle is little more than a picturesque ruin. It remains, however, one of the most panoramic points on the lake a the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
