The Plaza de la Constitucion is located at La Moneda Station on Line 1 of the Santiago Metro, while the Santa Ana Station on Line 2 and Line 5 is under a 10-minute walk away. Some guided tours of Santiago that stop at the plaza include round-trip transportation from area hotels.
The Plaza de la Constitucion is open 24 hours a day and is beautifully illuminated at night, but most people visit during the daytime when area attractions such as La Moneda Palace and La Moneda Cultural Center are open. There's also a changing of the guard ceremony at La Moneda Palace that’s held in the mornings on odd-numbered days of the month.
Originally constructed as a mint building, this massive neoclassical palace now houses Chile's presidential offices. It was designed by Italian architect Joaquín Toesca in the late 18th century. While most people only get to take its glory in from the outside, tours to parts of the interior are available to book in advance.
