3 Days in Acapulco for Foodies

Curated by Jenna Scatena, who's been a dedicated Acapulco visitor for more than a decade.

The food scene in Acapulco reflects the southern Pacific coast location of the city. Fresh seafood is the standout highlight, with splashes of coconut and tamarind adding flavors of the tropical climate. The city’s history of old-world Hollywood glamour means you’ll find gourmet restaurants serving international cuisine with ocean-view dining.

For authentic Mexican fare, Zocalo de Acapulco is filled with street food stalls and taquerias serving tamales, fish tacos, and enchiladas. From the beach to the resorts, you won’t go hungry. This foodie itinerary will take you on a culinary tour of the Pacific coast city.

Editor's note: Travel to Guerrero is not recommended due to serious safety risks in this area. Please follow your government's guidance and travel advisories.

Acapulco is hot, hot, hot year-round, with a rainy season June through September.

If you only have time to do one thing, make it a Mexican cooking class.

Day 1

Begin your stay in Acapulco with a half-day Mexican cooking class. Visit the mercado central and a tortilla factory to source ingredients and see hands-on techniques that make your favorite dishes. Chefs teach family recipes for beef fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, and guacamole that you can take home to your loved ones, and you get to enjoy a delicious traditional meal with drinks included.

Afterwards, stroll to explore where the old Hollywood jet-setters would congregate, perhaps stopping for an ice cream at Nutrimich Acapulco Diamante. Later, at Lucha Libre, savor tacos and beer while watching a wrestling match.

Day 2

Day two, take a scenic drive through the Guerrero countryside en route to a full-day mezcal tasting. Learn how the spirit is made, beginning in the agave fields and continuing to the distillation and fermentation process. Lunch and cocktails are provided, and you can try things like pozole and mezcal cream.

Return to Acapulco to witness the spectacle of the cliff divers at night as they launch themselves from La Quebrada into the crashing ocean waves. A 3-course meal with drinks is offered at La Perla where you have one of the best viewing points to see the divers.

Day 3

On your last day, rise early for an unscripted taco tour with a local. In a small group you can sample street food, ranging from tacos and tortas to juice and candy. Travel comfortably between locations and learn about the best insider recommendations in the city.

Later, set sail from Principal Dock and watch the sun sink over the water as you dance on board a yacht cruise. The 3-deck catamaran offers views of the coastline and seaside mansions of Acapulco. Splash out on your last night and indulge in some fine dining. I recommend Mizumi or Restaurant Las Limas.
