3 Days in Cabo San Lucas for First Timers

Curated by Jenna Scatenawho's been coming to Baja California for two decades.

When I think of my ideal vacation getaway, Cabo San Lucas is one of the first places that comes to mind. Whether you’re after seaside serenity or vibrant nightlife, Cabo San Lucas is sure to help you forget your worries.

Like me, you'll probably want to visit this place more than once. For your first time, get acquainted with this magical beachside town via my collection of some of the best attractions and activities in the area.

Expect year-round heat—pack lightweight clothing.

If you only have time for one thing, make it El Arco rock formation.

Day 1

Start by getting into the water. Explore the open sea, snorkel, and swim with sea lions. This half-day adventure includes lunch and an open bar so you can relax and unwind in the salty water.

If you'd prefer something faster paced, plan a private Jet Ski excursion. You'll be immersed in the coastline scenery of El Arco, also known as the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, while getting a pump of adrenaline.

At night, see a swashbuckling show on board the Buccaneer Queen. Watch the sunset from the best vantage point on the Sea of Cortez, with dinner, a show, and an open bar.

Day 2

Spend the next day on dry land. Explore Margaritas Beach via a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle. Explore the desert landscape on an off-road drive through sand creeks and canyons with a local guide who provides background on native flora and fauna.

In the afternoon, see the Baja Peninsula from atop a camel. This off-road exhibition gets close to the area's natural wilderness. A Mexican meal and tequila tasting adds allure.

Later, dance the night away, VIP-style, on a tour of Cabo's most stylish clubs. Skip the queues and enjoy music, an open bar, and electric dance floors until the early hours.

Day 3

On day three, go on a canyon canopy adventure in Boca De Sierra National Park. The ecology of this landscape is best seen from a zipline as you glide over the UNESCO-protected park.

For a slower pace, the turtle release eco-experience is one way to appreciate Cabo's environment without breaking a sweat. Learn about baby turtles and release them into the water on this experience.

Wrap up your trip with a sunset cruise. Sip unlimited beer and wine, taste delicious gourmet food, and listen to smooth jazz while you watch the sunset over Lover's Beach and Land's End.
