3 Days in Daytona Beach for Families

Curated by Nick Dauka travel writer and Central Florida native.

Daytona Beach is a fantastic choice for a Florida family vacation. The sun-drenched Atlantic shores benefit from waves that are perfect for riding. Lined with a variety of family-friendly attractions like go-karts, mini golf, and more, there’s so much fun to be had for all ages.

Venture just west of the boardwalk to find other unique experiences. A visit to the Daytona International Speedway is a must for racing faces, especially if you want to drive or ride in an authentic NASCAR vehicle. It’s wise to check the forecast before your visit—not only for rain, but for rockets, too. Daytona Beach is a great spot for your family to watch a NASA shuttle launch.

Expect plenty of sunshine, so don’t forget the sunscreen.

If you only have time for one thing, make it the kid-tastic Museum of Arts & Sciences.

Day 1

The kids are awake, the sun is shining, and there’s no better way to start your Daytona Beach getaway than with a few hours on the ocean. Do as the locals do and take a group surfing lesson to catch some waves and learn a new skill.

Outdoor beach fun is never boring, but you’ll want to be careful not to let the kids get too much sun. Explore Daytona’s many indoor museums—the Museum of Arts & Sciences is a favorite—when the sun is at its highest, then head back out and discover other local attractions on a fun scavenger hunt.

Day 2

It may sound silly to visit Daytona Beach only to spend time away from the beach, but you should know that Central Florida has a gorgeous interior worth exploring. Visit the greenspace of Tuscawilla Park and soar above the treetops on a zipline adventure.

Many families make the day trip to Orlando for the theme parks, but you should take this opportunity to discover a wild yet gentler side of Orlando. Blue Springs State Park is a haven for manatees. Kayaking with these delicate creatures is a memory your whole family will cherish.

Day 3

The final day for fun in the sun means you’ve got to make it count. Treat the kids to a fun attraction such as miniature golf or riding water slides at the Daytona Lagoon. Meanwhile racing enthusiasts may want to sneak off to Daytona International Speedway. If the kids have somehow run out of energy, let them (and you) relax on a catamaran cruise down the Halifax River.

Finally, what would a family vacation be without family photos? Bring your best smiles and let a professional photographer help you preserve these memories forever.
