3 Days in Daytona Beach for First Timers

Curated by Nick Dauka travel writer and Central Florida native.

There are loads of awesome reasons to visit Daytona Beach: NASCAR Racing, Bike Week, and, of course, the famous beach are just a few of my favorite highlights. There’s ample fun in the sun, though you may be surprised at just how many great indoor attractions there are. From the vintage car displays at the Museum of Arts & Sciences to the Halifax Historical Museum’s exhibits of local history stretching back 7,000 years, you’ll have no trouble filling your schedule.

Expect sunny weather with some afternoon storms in summer.

If you only have time for one thing, make it the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

Day 1

If you’re not already in your swimsuit when you touch down in Daytona Beach, then put it down as your first itinerary must-do. In addition to a suit, shades and flip-flops are more or less required for strolling down the boardwalk. Better yet, cover larger distances faster with a fun Segway ride under the sun.

There’s so much to see and do, so continue your self-led exploration on an electric bike. Consider riding north to the Oceanside Country Club for a round of golf or cruise south to visit the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse and Museum.

Day 2

Racing fans should get behind the wheel of a real race car at the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Or, if you’d rather drink and leave the driving to someone else, then you’re also in luck. Volusia County can quench your thirst for pilsners, porters, and more.

Sip your way through local breweries without worrying about getting behind the wheel when you join a brewery bus tour.

Day 3

The last day of vacation is always bittersweet. Why not take it easy with a fishing trip down the St. Johns River? With a captain, guide, and private boat, your search for largemouth bass couldn't be easier.

Or, get personal with wildlife and explore the mangroves and islands on a kayak adventure. You'll get a chance at seeing dolphins, manatees, and bald eagles that call this area home.

It’s wise to pick an activity that combines multiple experiences. Another option: Try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding where you’re bound to see some marine life such as manatees and dolphins.
