3 Days in Seattle for Foodies

Curated by Elisa Parhada Seattle native who is still partial to good coffee, despite her new home in Los Angeles.

Everyone knows that Seattle is a haven for nature seekers (despite drizzly weather), but I most love the city for its foodie delights. Not only does the Emerald City have one of the oldest farmers markets in the country and a world-class coffee scene, it also has a burgeoning group of indigenous chefs as well as international newcomers showcasing diverse flavors all over the city.

The Pike Place Market—which manages to be historic and fresh at the same time—is ground zero for food lovers. Local classics here include Alaskan king crab and smoked salmon, Beecher's cheese, Piroshky Piroshky pastries, and tangy yogurt from Ellenos. When I want to try a diverse range of cuisines, I head to places like Spice Bridge in Tukwila. Here are more of my tips for eating and drinking your way through the city.

Hope for the best sunny weather, but always be prepared with a rain jacket and waterproof shoes.

If you only have time for one thing, make it the Pike Place Market, a fun place to explore rain or shine.

Day 1

Your first foodie stop in Seattle is the beloved Pike Place Market. Between the salmon tossing and Daily Dozen donuts made on the spot, there are creperies, Italian delis, tea shops, and award-winning chowder. When you are full, check out the shops in the labyrinthine floors below street level.

Head over to the Capitol Hill neighborhood to discover that Starbucks isn't the only coffee chain that helped start the coffee revolution. Get to know some of Seattle’s other beloved cafés, such as Caffe Ladro, Victrola Coffee Roasters, and Espresso Vivace. End your tour at the amazing Starbucks Reserve Roastery.

Day 2

Amazon, Google, and many other start-ups are located in Seattle's tech center at the south tip of Lake Union. Explore the neighborhood and nibble through spots like Ma’ono Fried Chicken, Mamnoon, Marination, Jack's BBQ, and Rachel's Ginger Beer at the Amazon Spheres.

From South Lake Union, head into the SoDo (South of Downtown) District to the city's oldest neighborhood, Georgetown. Seattle's craft beer scene has blossomed here; Elysian Taproom and Jellyfish Brewing aren't to be missed.

Day 3

Venture outside the city today: Vashon and Whidbey Islands make easy day trips, where you can hunt for mushrooms, shuck a bucket of Penn Cove mussels, and explore microbreweries. East of the city is Woodinville, where [Chateau Ste. Michelle](Seattle Food_Day 3_Mushrooms https://www.viator.com/Seattle-attractions/Chateau-Ste-Michelle-Vineyards/overview/d704-a17989#overview) and other wineries flourish. Add on a hike at Olallie State Park and visit Snoqualmie Falls for a full day excursion.

Alternatively, track down Bigfoot, stop at farm stands, and get a taste of Bavaria on a trip to Leavenworth, an Alpine-style village in the Cascade mountains.
