3 Days in St Augustine for Families
My son’s first trip outside of Orlando city limits was to St. Augustine. It’s not a far drive from home, but the Ancient City has always been one of my favorite places to visit. Over the last decade my itinerary has been built around beer and bites; now, I’m rediscovering St. Augustine on a quest to find family-friendly parks, restaurants, and attractions that my little one can enjoy, too.
St. Augustine is a dream for parents. It’s walkable (read: stroller-friendly), it’s educational (even many of the local watering holes are soaked with history), and it’s a budget-friendly vacation (a rarity the farther south in Florida you go). Bring your family to this historic city and you’ll leave with lifelong memories after only three days.
Sunscreen and hats are necessary, while a jacket may be a good idea in the winter months.

The good news is that St. Augustine has plenty for kids to do. The bad news? Choosing just one activity! The hop-on, hop-off trolley through Old Town is the easiest way to get from attraction to attraction. As a bonus, this tour offers admission to the Old Jail, History Museum, and Oldest Store.
A stop at the Pirate and Treasure Museum is a must for most kids. Spending time there may give sporting parents a bargaining chip to pay a quick visit to the nearby World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum.
If the little ones are rolling their eyes at the thought of another educational activity, take them for a thrill ride on the St. Johns River. This airboat ride gets you all out onto the water and shows the kids where a pirate ship may have sank.
In the evening show kids the spooky side of St. Augustine during a nighttime haunted history tour. A Ghostly Encounter is family-friendly and educational, plus, there have been sightings of little ghost boys and girls if your kids are looking for a playmate.
From the Oldest Wooden School House to the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park, you can easily fill your day with an attraction of your choice. A private city-wide scavenger hunt lets the kids decide as you zip around the city solving clues. All you need to play is a charged-up cell phone.
Before you say farewell to St. Augustine, ask the kids for one last family photo against a fiery sky courtesy of a sunset cruise. Relax while soaking up quality time with the ones you love and planning your next family vacation to this beautiful coastal city.
