The Serra da Bodoquena mountain range surrounding Bonito is waterfall country. While hiking through the region’s many eco reserves, travelers will find cascades of all shapes and sizes, often prime spots for swimming and diving. Here are some of the best waterfalls in Bonito.

This waterfall is one of seven along the same river near Bonito. The 250-foot-tall (76-meter-tall) fall descends into a small pond on the Coxipo River—a popular spot for cooling off with a swim. A viewing area near the parking lot offers views of the falls for those who’d prefer to not get wet.

This small waterfall doubles as a popular swimming hole, thanks to the pool of cold water that forms at its base. A small entrance fee means the waterfall is rarely too crowded, making it a good choice for those looking for a more natural experience.

The waters of Barra Azul Falls form several pools for soaking, and those who wish to stretch their legs can hike to the top of the falls via a short trail. It’s also one of the most photogenic waterfalls in Bonito.

The rarely crowded Paraiso Waterfall isn’t very tall, but it’s an excellent spot for swimming and slipping down natural waterslides. Calmer currents make this waterfall a good choice for families with children or older travelers who’d still like to get in the water.

The highest waterfall in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the 515-foot-high (157-meter-high) Boca da Onça is only one of a dozen falls scattering the lushly vegetated yet rocky landscape. A guided 3.5-hour tour along a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) nature trail allows you to pass by them all and stop for refreshing dips in several of them.
