3 Days in West Palm Beach for Foodies

Curated by Nick Dauka travel writer who lived in and visited Palm Beach for over a decade.

It’s a bummer that I didn’t become a “foodie” until after I moved out of Royal Palm Beach at the end of high school. Thankfully, my parents spent an additional seven years there, so as a young adult I still had plenty of opportunities for delicious adventures there.

That said, even picky eaters won’t have trouble finding good food here. There’s something for every appetite and budget. Seafood and Latin cuisines are a given, considering West Palm’s surroundings. And as Palm Beach Island is right next door, you can also find remarkable fine dining. Throw in plenty of late-night grub, great cafés, and dozens of bars, and you’ll have plenty to check out on a 3-day buffet holiday.

Don’t forget the sunscreen and keep your eyes peeled for sudden storms.

If you only have time for one thing, make it a historical happy hour tour of downtown West Palm.

Day 1

Welcome to West Palm—I hope you’ve brought your appetite. Unpack your bib and get ready for a full day of downtown grazing. Your first adventure should be a casual food tour. Explore the hot spots around popular Clematis Street and you can sample Asian fusion dishes, key lime pie, and other local eats.

In the afternoon, loosen your belt and get ready for round two. This time, enjoy a food tour that’s served with a side of history and spend hours exploring the historic neighborhoods of West Palm.

Day 2

There’s no shortage of seafood options here, whether you head in-land for a low-key meal at Bimini Twist or splurge on salty plates at the aptly named Seafood Bar. If you want to see exactly how and where your dinner was caught, spend your second day on a half-day deep-sea fishing trip off of the shores of Riviera Beach.

Brag about your catch of the day—and maybe embellish it a bit—over some fruity and fizzy cocktails on a happy-hour walking tour through the streets of downtown West Palm. You’ll also learn about the city’s prohibition history as you go.

Day 3

Your final day in town is a great opportunity to trade waterside dining for on-water dining. Start with a sail on the Indian River for a long lunch cruise. The trip ends up in Jupiter, but it’s worth renting a car to get there for the food and the many mansions and landmarks you’ll see along the way.

Surely you have time for one final stop before heading back home? If so, make it a tour of the Bulk Candy Store, where you can fill your pockets with over 50 flavors of popcorn.
