730 Seppeltsfield Road, Seppeltsfield, South Australia, 5355

The basics

Offering food, art, crafts, and experiences, Seppeltsfield Barossa—set on a picturesque and historic 420-acre (170-hectare) estate—is more than just a winery. Exploring the Seppeltsfield estate, with its avenue of palms, elm walk, dawn- and dusk-loving kangaroos, and wildlife habitat of eucalyptus, pines, and poplars, is encouraged. Several wine opportunities stand out: the Taste of History tour with its 100-year-old wine sample and the Taste Your Birth Year tour (the older, the better, for this one).

How to get there

If you're driving, you'll find the Seppeltsfield Barossa in the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley—under an hour’s drive from Adelaide. Depending on traffic and location, head north on the M2 and/or A2 highways to exit to Greenock/Seppeltsfield. About 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) down this road, after veering left, is Seppeltsfield Barossa Winery on the left-hand side. Or, skip the designated driver and take a tour with included transportation.

When to get there

Autumn—when concerts, festivals, and wine-centric events enliven the area—is the most popular time to visit the Barossa Valley. Fall is also harvest time, when changing vineyard leaves, cooler temperatures, and the chance to see harvest activities make a visit pleasant and exciting. The Cellar Door is open daily from morning to early evening. Check the calendar for unique events at Seppeltsfield, including wellness weekends, craft workshops, and culinary intensives.

Seppeltsfield's winemaking philosophy

Seppeltsfield guides its winemaking by several principles, including “place over person.” This means that the wines Seppeltsfield makes are not so much about the talents, whims, or celebrity of a particular winemaker. Instead, they are about the ability of the winemaking team to translate the character of the land and the time of bottling into their wines.
