The Patriarchal Cathedral is a functioning place of worship and a designated historical monument. Located less than a mile from the cathedral, the Stavropoleos Monastery is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Bucharest. Built in the Brancoveanu architectural style, it's known for its ornate façade, patterned frescoes, intricately carved doors and stone columns, a dazzling interior decorated with gilded icons and frescoes, and a courtyard of old tombs.
