The basics

At the Mamu Tropical Skywalk, you can follow trails through the dense jungle floor, which leads to a cantilever, elevated walkway, and observation tower. As the largest remaining continuous area of complex vine forest on basalt-derived soil in the Wet Tropics, the unique ecosystem is home to an abundance of mammals, bugs, and birds. Things to know before you go

  • The entire Mamu Tropical Skywalk comprises a 1.5-mile (2.5-kilometer) round-trip walk and takes at least an hour to complete.

  • Alternative routes suitable for wheelchairs and strollers are available along the forest walkways.

  • The top of the observation tower is not wheelchair accessible.

  • Download the Mamu Tropical Skywalk app to access the audio tour; be sure to download it before arrival since service can be spotty in the rainforest.

How to get there

The Mamu Tropical Skywalk is in the Palmerston section of the Wooroonooran National Park, along the Palmerston Highway, in Queensland’s Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Cairns and about 2.5 hours from Port Douglas by car. Guided tours from Cairns typically provide round-trip transport.

When to get there

The Skywalk is open daily, except Christmas Day, from 9:30am to 4:30pm, with the last entry at 3:30 pm. Keep in mind that it closes during severe weather conditions. The best time to visit Tropical North Queensland is from April to October, when the weather is cooler, while August to September is generally the driest time.
