Calle Roldan Distrito de Poroy, Cusco

Praktisk info

When to Get There

The best time to go to Machu Picchu is between April to October during the dry season. If you don't mind a bit of rain and warmer temperatures, travel between November to March. Come in June for the Inca Festival of the Sun in Cusco. Held on winter solstice, the festival reenacts some parts of the Inti Raymi, an Inca festival of the olden times, and features a colorful ceremonial parade.

Who Was Mr. Bingham?

Belmond Hiram Bingham III was an American explorer who rediscovered the Inca city of Machu Picchu. Though not a trained archaeologist, he organized the exploration of forgotten Inca cities in the early 20th century. He also rediscovered Vitcos and Vilcabamba, the latter being the last Inca capital. Credited as the person who made Machu Picchu famous, a road leading to the citadel is named after him.
