Almost everyone visits Pink Beach on a Komodo National Park cruise out of Labuan Bajo in Flores. Entry is included in your Komodo National Park ticket. Taking photos and soaking up the sun are the main activities, but some snorkel to see the coral and fish in the reef offshore. Visit on a 2-night or 3-night liveaboard cruise, a day trip by speedboat, or a longer tour that covers both the national park and mainland Flores.

In peak rainy season (December–March), and particularly in February, winds and waves can make Komodo cruises unpleasant—and even lead to canceled trips. The dry season (April–December) is best, but visit April–May or mid-September to mid-November for fewer crowds at Komodo National Park. It’s wise to plan your cruise for midweek days and avoid major Indonesian holidays such as Eid al-Fitr.
There’s more to Komodo National Park than dragons. Instagrammers adore Taka Makassar Island, a slim crescent of pure white sand that seems to float in the turquoise water. The views of rugged promontories and beaches from the summit of Padar Island are spectacular, but less-crowded Kelor Island makes a great alternative. Head to Strawberry Rock, an extraordinary formation marbled in ice-cream shades of yellow and pink for a dose of pure color.
