The basics

Entrance to the Lednice Chateau is by guided tour only. Visitors can take various tour routes through it. On the basic tour, see the representative rooms, while on other tours get a glimpse of the princely apartments, children's room, a puppet museum, and even an artificial baroque cave. Both the interior and exterior are splendid. While the chateau can be visited independently, its rural location means that many travelers visit on a guided tour from Prague or nearby Brno.

When to get there

The chateau is closed to visitors in December and January. Its opening hours vary during the other months of the year. It’s open every day, into the evening, between May and September. Most visitors will prefer to visit in the spring or summer, when the gardens are most attractive. The chateau is a very popular weekend-trip destination, so if you can, avoid visiting on Saturday or Sunday, especially in the summer.

Cesky Sternberk Castle

There is no shortage of beautiful old castles to visit throughout the Czech Republic, and another must-visit is Cesky Sternberk. This sits on a cliff over the small village of Sternberk, 33 miles (53 kilometers) southeast of Prague. It was built in the 1240s, redesigned in the Gothic style in the 15th century, and renovated in the baroque style in the 17th. Descendants of their original owners still live there.
