The basics

Many visitors to the Niagara region are surprised that grapes grow well in the harsh winter climate, but Peller Estates specializes in ice wine. This dessert wine is made from grapes that have frozen on the vine, which creates a more concentrated flavor. There are many ways to enjoy the wines at Peller Estate: at the tasting room, in the Winery Restaurant, on a tour, and during special events and seminars, such as painting evenings and vineyard hikes. The Winery Restaurant features farm-to-table cuisine, has beautiful views of the vineyards, and matches the food with the estate’s wines.

Travelers can visit Peller Estates Winery individually, or include it on a more extensive day trip around the wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Visit Fort George

While in the area, history enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the Fort George National Historic Site. Here you'll see historic reenactments of life during the early 19th century, when Canada and the United States were briefly at war. There are also beautiful views across the Niagara River to the US, and across Lake Ontario—you can see Toronto on the other side when the air is clear.
