The basics

With its distinct neoclassical looks and its two linked buildings—one with a grand colonnade, one with a curved shape that directly overlooks the water—the Parliament House (Riksdagshuset) is a Stockholm highlight. As the home of the Swedish government, it also functions as a symbol of its famously open democracy. Throughout its parliamentary session, visitors are invited to tour the complex, attend debates and hearings, and otherwise bear witness to the country’s democratic processes.

Guided public tours are offered throughout the year, including weekend tours in English. The landmark can also be admired from the outside on a number of Stockholm sightseeing tours, including walking tours of Gamla Stan, biking tours, and self-led audio tours.
