The basics

The Red House has an octagonal entrance and main display hall, a connected cross-shaped building, a second-floor theater, and north and south squares. Browse for unique, handmade artworks, crafts, and souvenirs, and explore different creative boutiques and studios. Refuel with a cup of tea at its tea shop. The venue hosts special events throughout the year, such as workshops, seminars, exhibitions, plays, dances, concerts, live performances, and a popular art and design market on the weekends.

The Red House and Ximending neighborhood are featured on many sightseeing tours of Taipei, along with other popular attractions such as Taipei 101, Longshan Temple, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Opt for a private walking tour for a customized experience.

How to get there

The Red House Theater is located in the Ximending neighborhood, in Taipei’s Wanhua district. By MRT, take the Blue or Green line to Ximen Station (Exit 1). A number of buses also stop nearby, including bus nos. 18, 221, 232, 235, 257, 513, 621, 640, 663, 783, 797, 799, and 835. There are a number of paid parking lots nearby.

When to get there

The Red House is open from Tuesday to Sunday, with slightly extended hours on Friday and Saturday. Visit on weekend afternoons for the art and design market, held at the north square. Check the schedule for an updated list of events.

Ximending

Located in the historic Wanhua District, Ximending is a lively entertainment and shopping neighborhood, full of shops, markets, and department stores, as well as plenty of dining and entertainment options such as cafés, restaurants, food stalls, bars, clubs, karaoke venues, and street performances. It’s also Taipei’s main LGBTQ district.
