Dear Elissa, It was a joy to try to help our esteemed VIP and to share in his hubris and humour. I'll never forget him renaming the White Cliffs of Dover to the Black Cliffs! It was my honour to be able to support you both and to be so trusted as a support walker on uneven ground 350ft on top of the cliffs... I tried my best to adapt the aural presentations, sharing of props and verbal explanations and can only wish for more practice to welcome you both back with an even better and enriching experience. The guide was not easily heard from the middle and back of the van. Needed a microphone. Several times we were just dropped off and frankly had trouble reuniting with the group. Way over priced for the experience received. We had several excursions on this trip that far exceeded this for a fraction of the cost.

Hello again Robert. I am so sorry you feel this way about our eight hour day together with your wife and eight other guests. The four sat behind you presented no similar challenges with repeatedly welcomed questions and given answers whilst we were driving. Whenever there is a planned stop at the best vantage point we always physically stand, face the audience and present our view, resources and pictures from a screen whilst aiming to engage all in a personalised and more intimate way. We have carried over 250 people over the last two seasons gaining an above industry standard of 10% reviews with the vast majority being 5 star ratings and Viator's Badges of Excellence. I hope the 200 holidaymakers that have already booked for this season do not see the experience through the same lens. Thank you greatly for your punctuality on the day, you were indeed first onboard and back to our two meeting points well ahead of the others. I also thank you so much for your help and assistance with our visually impaired companion (please see Elissa's review from the same day.) It takes great self awareness and humility to look out for people worse off than ourselves and what a shame you have chosen to tell the world before me of your displeasure after I could do anything possibly different to respond to your needs. Comprehensive Tour of the Dover Area

For an overview of the Dover coast and time in Canterbury, this is the tour to take. Matt, our driver and guide, was very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the Battle of Britain Memorial, Canterbury Cathedral, and the small walk on the top of the cliffs. Matt brought a number of items related to the places we were going. We enjoyed feeling the material that makes the Dover cliffs white and loved the ham and cheese sandwich he brought for our photos in front of the Ham and Sandwich road signs. Our last stop was at a seaside town where we had the best ever fish & chips. This all day tour was in a Mercedes minivan and was comfortable. The small group size was a plus. We were picked up at the cruise pier in Dover and returned in plenty of time to make the all aboard call for the cruise ship. We had some trouble finding the correct minivan when we came off the ship because there were so many tours leaving at the same time and several Britannia minibuses in different locations. However, the friendly Britannia staff at the pier went out of their way to get us to the right location. Kudos to them. We were very pleased with Britannia, our tour, and guide. We would recommend this tour to our friends.

The experience was great and we saw a lot of amazing sights. The only star taken off was because we got on the cruise ship only 6 minutes before all aboard so we were stressed for about the last 45 minutes of the tour.

Dear Savannah, I'm glad you both enjoyed the eight hour day and am so sorry you felt it was tainted towards the end. The Cruise Lines have threatened to leave people behind in Dover for years and nobody here at Britannia can recollect when it has actually happened. Naturally I wouldn't want to be involved for the first time if it occurs yet saw your ship still in port when I got home so hope you left relaxed and fulfilled from an amazing whistlestop trip around our beautiful British Isles...Matt

Matt is great!!! First off he adjusted the tour to accommodate when our ship we be in port. He went out of his way to show us. so much of the areas, things you wouldn’t be able to access on a big bus. He showed us samples of the areas we went to, and had all kinds of information on his lap top available about the areas visited if we were curious. Lastly thoughtful, of every tour I had go e one, he had a charge cord for my phone as it got very low from all the pictures I was taking. Arguably the Best tour we took.

Canterbury and a Ham Sandwich

Our tour guide, Matt, did a remarkable job giving us the details and history of each location we visited. We felt like we were a part of the history and our surroundings which made for a great destination tour. Because it was a Sunday, we weren't able to get into Canterbury Cathedral and we also missed a stop in Sandwich because of a Medieval Festival (which would have been a nice addition), but we did get time at the iconic Ham/Sandwich road marker and saw some beautiful countryside. I personally would have either liked more time in the beach town of Deal to actually get time for a relaxing lunch, or eliminate that stop to spend more time along the way. All in all, Matt did a fabulous job giving us the key highlights, and I'd definitely recommend this tour to others.

It was an amazing tour with our guide & driver Matt. He was incredible & was very accommodating for a few of us with some mobility issues. We all agreed it was the best tour we had during our 12 night cruise which included Iceland, Belfast, Liverpool then Dover. Charming towns & hamlets & beautiful landscapes. If there was a way to give it more than 5 stars I would.

I enjoyed a walk along the Cliffs of Dover and hearing the history of the area. A visit to the Britain at War Memorial, Coventy and the Cathedral, Deal and Dover Castles. It was a great fun day full of history. I highly recommend this tour.

Excellent Tour with Matt

We loved this tour! Matt picked us up from the ship and conducted an excellent tour. The bus was not completely full, which was nice. We had also let Matt know ahead of time that two of our party had issues with car sickness, so he held seats at the front for us. The stops were excellent, from the white cliffs to the Battle of Britain Memorial, Sandwich, Canterbury and more fun stops. The Deal Beach Parlour has incredibly creamy soft serve. All in all, we highly recommend this tour!

Matt was amazing! He knows so much about seemingly everything (flora, fauna, geography, history, literature, politics, etc). The tour had a wide variety of stops which was wonderful. I would have preferred to have a little longer in each spot...but then it would have to be a 2 day tour. Matt was patient with his guests, passionate about his country, and knowledgeable about all stops. Note: you do not go in any of the Castles so if that is important to you you may want to pick another option.

You're amazing too Jen with all the things you've done and most valued for your appreciated compliments; thank you! We do train all our Driver Guides with the same routes, information and props; we each always hear Bluebirds Over The White Cliffs of Dover! We drive around the three castles of Dover, Deal and Walmer whilst discussing the historical origins and evolution in design over the last nine hundred years. From the cruise ships we invariably have a less mobile cohort of guests and as the Castles are not designed to be invaded we do not explicitly advertise tours as such! Viator have seen fit to overwrite my original descriptions and despite repeated attempts to get any one of their administrators to correct their submissions I'm afraid there is still erroneous information about entry to Dover Castle and it's tunnels. With a mile of curtain walls the vast castle alone warrants a full day tour but hopefully we gave you an overview to discover more or indeed return one day; you know where I am when you do... Good luck on that retirement plan and your son's future too. Matt :)

The tour exposed us to everything that Dover and the area had to offer but if you wanted to go into a castle or cathedral, you did not have the time. Minivan was great as was group size. Of course, one of the persons on the tour hogged all of the guides time and hence our descriptions of what we were seeing, … was somewhat clipped. Guide was knowledgeable but should have managed the group dynamics better. Would have liked more commentary, etc when we were doing a couple of the walk arounds.

Hi Steven, thank you for writing a review, your company, punctuality and sharing a great day together on our driving tour of the Countryside, Culture and Castles of the area. Our solution to that guest's travel sickness was to seat him at the front and as such with me we chatted about all sorts of things. Whenever the location suits and we have a planned stop to share Tour stories we prefer to not be driving but to face the group and display to all. As such he may have got less of the visual presentation than your good selves. Hope the rest of your trip was positive and you received more warm hospitality... Matt

Really loved our tour of Dover and surrounding country. Our tour guide, Matt worked very hard to make it a fun day for our small group of 9 people. One suggestion, at the beginning of the day ask if you can make time to actually tour Dover Castle if you're interested in seeing it.

Hi Susan, it was indeed a fun day and we were spoilt with the weather. To make full justification of the fascinating history of the last two thousands years, a tour of Dover Castle can take two days! It was not designed to be invaded(!) so we feel with the potential mobility and disability issues of some Seniors a value for money visit is best organised individually. Our tour guide was absolutely fabulous. He was so full of knowledge and great stories. One of the highlights was the Dover Castle which is the largest castle in England. Would love to have spent more time there.
