This tour was like flying first class on Emirates! Chris helped to personalize the entire tour based on our needs and wants. Not only that, but he brought us hiking shoes and socks to go on hikes and camping chairs and tea to sit and relax and enjoy the glory of Mount Fuji.
He and his wife are so sweet and kind. We were not part of any overcrowded tourist areas and got the most beautiful views of Fuji and the lakes, hiked to two waterfalls and a stunning moss filled forest grown on volcano rock. We even went to the Fuji shrine and had coffee and French pastries on a hilltop looking at Fuji.
It was one of the best parts of our Japan trip.
He also gave us directions to get on the right trains and was so supportive through text to help us.

Rina, Early springtime is always special here in Fujikawaguchiko when all of nature begins to wake up, and the first flowers and leaves emerge from the long winter. Had a wonderful day with Chris on New Year's Day. The weather was wonderful, which was neither mine nor Chris doing :-) , was just very lucky, but Chris did the rest of the job and I spent a lovely, fun and relaxing day around the 5 Fuji lakes.
I told Chris what I absolutely wanted to see and then let him chose the rest and I think it turned out wonderfully. The fact that it was a private trip for just me was a huge bonus, of course.
Also, the place was packed with tourists, but Chris was able to show me many, many places totally without crowds, from where I could fill my eyes with Fujisan. I look forward to my next trip to the area, because I am sure Chris has still many places to show me...

Chris gave a great tour and was extremely knowledgeable and well prepared. I had mobility issues and was never rushed. Definitely recommend-great, great tour. One of the best we did-and we did a few all over Japan.

After spending two weeks in Japan, this tour with Chris was the highlight! The weather on the date of our tour was iffy, but Chris had a plan in place and offered jackets, raincoats, and boots in case we were underprepared. We got to see various sights around the Fuji Five Lakes and the day felt leisurely and unhurried, as we were allowed to linger as much as we wanted at each stop. We had multiple stops for French pastries, snacks, lunch, and bathrooms, and it felt like traveling with an old friend, rather than a tour guide. He was great about offering to take photos and finding quiet places for us to get great shots of Mt. Fuji. Highly recommended!

Mai, It was like traveling with good friends, as if time slowed down for us on a beautiful late fall day to experience many things. Mt. Fuji showing herself to us at the best moments. She is perhaps most beautiful this time of year, the fresh snow etching many stories into the mountain. It was a real pleasure to share the day with you. Our tour with Chris was exceptional and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking to not just see Mount Fuji, but to get a dose of what it's like to be a local and immersed in the natural beauty of Lake Kawaguchi.
After catching an earlier than expected bus to Kawaguchiko, Chris met us early and took us to a lovely bakery in town for breakfast. He took us to several places throughout the day to get amazing vantage points of the Mount Fuji and the surrounding area, most of which were so "hidden" that there wasn't another tourist in sight. The day was filled with the perfect balance of moving around and short hikes to get to our destinations, but also having plenty of time to just take in the sights. Thank you, Chris for curating such an interesting and reinvigorating day.
Other highlights: Chris was very communicative pre-tour to pin down travel logistics, we traveled in his comfy van and used his very clean and convenient gear, and we stopped at a great local lunch spot.
The area is truly Chris's back yard. If you are looking to see the real Mount Fuji from a true local, book this tour!

Wow - where to even begin?! Our Mt. Fuji excursion was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Yumi and Chris have curated such an engaging and unique experience, and we felt so lucky to get to see Mt. Fuji through the eyes of locals vs. with the hoards of people getting off of the bullet train and buses. Yumi took us around for the day, and we couldn't have asked for a better guide - she was thoughtful, engaging, and really helped us experience the awe and gift of the nature surrounding Mt. Fuji and Kawaguchiko. Next time we'll be back and stay in Mt. Fuji area for a few nights vs. taking a day trip!!

I can’t speak highly enough of Chris and his “Hidden Japan” tour. Chris, originally from the U.S., has been living in Japan for over 20 years. He clearly is passionate about his home and his craft, and it is evident by his enthusiasm as a guide. I did a private day tour where he picked me up from my Mt. Fuji hotel.
I was immediately drawn to his laid back demeanor and approach to the day. He had EVERYTHING you could possibly need (and those you DIDN’T know you needed!) As we did a fair amount of light hiking, he even had both hiking boots and hiking socks available. He even had an extra down jacket in case I got cold when we went to the mountains and to the caves.
Mother Nature was on my side and the snow capped peak of Mt. Fuji demonstrated her beauty throughout the day. He also knew the less crowded, less touristy sights that were photographic gems.
I had the pleasure of also briefly meeting his lovely Japanese wife, Yumi, when we stopped to grab some coffee before heading into the forest to just sit, sip, & SEE the beauty of the forest.
His knowledge of the biodiversity and ecosystem of the forest was impressive (like pointing out the DEADLY mushrooms!!😬).
I highly recommend this tour and be sure to include Mt. Fuji on your trip to Japan!!

Chris was a great guide. He took us to some views and spots that were not surrounded by tourists. He told us stories. He gave us lots of time to explore and did not rush us. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of viewing Mount Fuji and area!

Chris was a great tour guide. He's been living in the area for 20 years and took us to hidden gems where we could discover the forest, caves, shrines while enjoying beautiful views from the lakes or mountains surrounding Mt Fuji as he drove us around. I definitely recommend him. We could have asked for a particular itinerary but we fully trusted him
to come up the best one for the season. We really had a great and relaxing time with him. All of this was much needed after 3 busy days visiting Tokyo.
We were really lucky to have him for our first visit to Mt Fuji: it was a time well spent in complete calm and serenity with great insights and stories to learn about this area.

We highly recommend this up close, quiet and personal tour of the Mt Fuji area. Chris was a fantastic tour guide and he took us to some very spiritual places away from the tourist areas. Best way to finish our 9 day trip around Japan. Amazing views of Mt Fuji, beautiful waterfalls, gigantic 1200 year old cedar trees and the Dragon Cave were the highlights.
