I had the BEST time as a solo female traveler.....

I took my first solo trip on NCL Encore to Alaska with the goals of relaxing and taking lots of pictures. I went solo so that I could take all of pictures I wanted without slowing folks down and having someone waiting for me...This was my first solo trip and first time doing an excursion not with a cruiseline so I was a little hesistant. However, this ended up being one of my favtorite days. My tour guide Mikki was amazing. I felt 100% safe and comfortable as a solo female traveler of color. Mikki told us all about the history and of the places we visited and places that we passed. She took us to some off the beaten path places away from all of the tourist. She had cookies and hot coffee for us and the cookies where sooo good. I really wanted another one. She gave us a few photo tricks along the way...I got some good pictures and made a lifelong memory. This was well worth the money and so much better than doing a standard boring bus tour with the cruiseline.

Excellent Introduction to Ketchikan

We really enjoyed our day with Josh and James. After picking us up at Wards Cove (we arrived on an NCL ship), we got coffee and cookies and then made our first stop at Potlach Totem Park, a very interesting place in a beautiful setting. We made other stops after that, but Potlach was my favorite. All throughout the tour, photo tips were provided. We basically had a private tour as it was just the two of us. If you are looking for a small group tour that introduces you to Ketchikan, this is the tour for you! The team communicates well and provides excellent customer service.

Perfect way to see Ketchikan.

We happened to be the only 2 people on this tour, with 2 guides, as one was finishing training. Mark Bofinger and Mikki were both very good at their jobs, giving lots of information on the area and attractions, as well as some excellent photography tips (such as the best way to photograph a totem pole!). Excellent tour and well away from cruise crowds.

Adam is a great guide. Brimming with historical information and so many tips on using your phone to take amazing pictures. We stopped at places that were not overrun with tourists- truly "off the beaten track". Potlatch Park was magical!

I really wanted some tricks to use with my iPhone. But the instruction for framing a shot was helpful. I didn’t care for the “herding cats” pace since we were only a group of 4.

Hello George, I am sorry that you felt that it was a waste of money. We do have a schedule that we have to maintain in order to pick up our next group of guests in a timely manner. Also, your group of 3 was a majority of the tour and the guide that you were with is wealth of information that you must not have tapped into. Thank you for the three stars though, there must have been some value that you found within the tour.

Sherry was a great source of info on photography and using my iphone! She is very personable and easy to talk to. We really enjoyed our excursions, which she ended up being our personal guide as we were the only ones on the trip. Don't let that change your mind though. this company has several tour guides and does an excellent job!

We had a great time. Our driver/photographer was friendly and helped us with learning tips using our phones. We did lots of stops. Didn’t feel hurried. Saw salmon spawning, native totems. Got great cookies and coffee. In a van with a little walking. Great experience! Highly recommend.

Our guide James and owner Adam took fabulous care of us and shared wonderful cell phone camera techniques at some less touristy spots. Communication was excellent and the customized tour worked great for young and old alike. Sharing video of salmon jumping upstream was my highlight, as well as making new friends with the other tour participants.

We had an amazing experience on this photo safari! We had a super small group and our guide, James, was excellent. He was welcoming and knowledgeable about both the local area (and wildlife!) and with tips for great photos. He managed the range of experience and setups in our group - from iPhone to mirrorless to DSLR - extremely well. The stops on the tour itself were well-selected, we got an awesome slice of Ketchikan that was the perfect way to spend the morning, learning about the history, ecology, and taking photos. We were able to cover a lot of ground to see parts of town that we would not have if we were only on foot. This included a stop for what was probably the most delicious cookie in town, well away from the central/cruise docks area! We would absolutely recommend this photo safari to anyone going to Ketchikan, photographer or not - you will get great photos on your iPhone and get a great tour at the same time! A big thanks to James for making our experience so great!
