We dove with about 10 Oceanic and Reef Mantas! Saw a super rare black Manta and afterward went onto see the most vibrant healthy hard corals I’ve ever seen. The cool waters around Nusa Penida island make for amazing underwater sea scape. Thank you Freedive Nusa for making our time in Nusa Penida!

Got to see the mantas and...

Got to see the mantas and it was an amazing experience! Would highly recommend; however, I would recommend booking it through a company located by the harbor. Through Viator, I ended up having to find my own transportation to the snorkeling shop to get my equipments (10-15 min away from harbor) then back to the harbor to start and then return the equipments after the tour. It’s inconvenient while everyone else started and ended at the harbor.

We snorkelled in 3 spots, including Manta Bay not manta point. I did not see any mantas as the surface was very choppy. Did not feel safe, strong waves almost hit us to the rocks (I can swim and just finished a free diving course prior to this) It was not a safe day and should had been canceled.

Hi Mali. Thanks for the review about your experience with us! Firstly, let me apologize for your bad experience and sorry if something was not clearly explained to you. We do our best to provide safe and good service for all our guests. It is described in the description of the trip and was many times mentioned in the briefing made by our instructor that the trip will be to Manta Bay. The reason as you mentioned - bad weather conditions. We will never put anyone at the risk by trying to reach a further place - Manta Point located in the open ocean if it is not safe. As you wrote, even in Manta Bay was fairly wavy and choppy. If weather conditions are not safe the entire trip can be canceled with a full refund. We have this information in our policy. And definitely, nobody can promise you to meet Manta Rays. It is obviously wild nature. The chance is fairly high but it depends on many factors. So, for us it looks a bit contradictory what you are writing - you are complaining that you didn't reach Manta Point (where we didn't plan to go originally and every participant knew about it) but at the same time you are complaining about the weather conditions. We honestly do our best to provide the safest experience but can not be responsible for the weather. Nusa Penida is located in the open ocean and we have to always take it into the account. There is one more contradictory and strange moment for us. You booked your trip through Viator. After the trip, you proceed to refund and wrote that Viator charged you twice. We made a refund for you even though we didn't see it from our side and I sent you the proof of the payment that we received. We trusted you and made a refund as you requested even if it was no issue with payment from our side. Overall, this situation for us looks a bit dishonest and contradictory. Please, again receive my apologies for the negative experience you had. Please, if you will visit Nusa Penida again welcome to visit us. We will provide a trip or freediving coaching session, so you can change your opinion about our service and experience with us. I have sent the same message to you by WhatsApp but unfortunately haven't received your answer.

Great snorkelling locations, but overpriced tour

The snorkelling trip is a bit misleading from the description provided because the freediving school is only an intermediate. You have to go to the meeting point to pick up the wetsuits and then to drive to the port to get picked up by the actual provider. If you are not a freediver, you can just get a snorkelling tour from the harbour, as you either way go with the same boat. In the tour there were 4 snorkelling spots, while we were snorkelling only in 3 places. The places are amazing and it's worth going, but this tour is overpriced comparing to the local providers' alternatives

Hello Raul, Thank you for your review! We are really sorry that you didn't enjoy your Manta Trip with us. It is true - Manta Trip with our company is more expensive than a manta trip with some other local companies. All our prices are published and everyone knows this information in advance. And there are some reasons: 1) We provide good equipment direct from our freediving school: good masks, snorkels, fins, and even wetsuits. The water temperature on Manta Bay can be 23-24C. Without a wetsuit, you will get cold in 5 minutes and not have a full experience. No other local agent provides this; most only supply masks, fins, & a snorkel that is often very well used and not maintained. 2) Water might be very choppy there. We provide seasickness pills to all our guests, should they need them. Many find that this small effort saves their trip. 3) There are different types of boats for Manta Trips. We use a new big speedboat. It is faster and much more comfortable. And, yes, more expensive. Other local companies which use speedboats also charge more. 4) On all trips, our instructors give a detailed briefing before the manta trip and inform tourists how to behave with mantas in the open sea, giving our recommendations on how to make the experience better and safer. We really think that it is important because it is the only way to make tourism more sustainable way. No other local company does this and as a result, you can often see how people chase mantas and even try to touch them, which is unacceptable. We have 2 options for Manta Trips: Manta Trip with a local crew to Manta Bay or a guided trip to Manta Point with our freediving instructor. The second one happens less regularly. It depends on the number of people and weather conditions. We inform all the customers about this and provide detailed information about these options. Also, information about 4 points is not actual anymore. In our trip description, we mention only 3 points as well as during the briefing. Earlier everyone was visiting Crystal Bay but in December it was a big flood at Nusa Penida. So, the shallow reef was completely destroyed in Crystal Bay and now it doesn't make sense to visit it. You will see nothing just sand. Now, nobody is going there anymore. Again, we are really sorry that we made you disappointed. If you come to Nusa Penida next time, please visit us. Hopefully, we can offer you a guided trip with us and will change your opinion about our services!
