Belize is famous for its remarkable snorkeling sites and diverse sea life. With a name that means “Little Channel” in Maya, Hol Chan Marine Reserve was the first such designated reserve in Central America and is located among the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Just a quick ride by motorboat from Ambergris Caye, Hol Chan will be the first stop on your snorkeling adventure.
After donning a snorkeling mask and fins, you'll be ready to splash into the shallow, clear Caribbean waters to explore the amazing coral reef formations below. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, this area boasts a wonderfully healthy and diverse population of marine life, including 160 different species of fish. You’re likely to spot large schools of snapper, grouper, and jackfish darting among the impressive coral formations, as well as larger creatures like sea turtles and stingrays.
Hop back aboard your boat for a quick ride over to Shark Ray Alley, a shallow channel in the reef where these two bottom feeders are found in abundance. Swim among gentle stingrays, with wingspans up to 4 feet (1.2 meters), as well as harmless brown nurse sharks that can reach lengths of more than 9 feet (2.75 meters).

If you are staying in San Pedro or Caye Caulker you have to book this experience. We did snorkeling in Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray alley and saw an amazing variety of sea life. We saw nurse sharks, manatees, sea turtles, a barracuda and a variety of colorful fish. I highly recommend this experience. Our tour guide Soup was amazing, super knowledgeable and funny. He kept us entertained and ensured we had an amazing experience from beginning to end. If you do this excursion, make sure you book Shark Ray Alley too so that you can have the opportunity to swim with the nurse sharks!!

What a great experience! Tour guides were extremely friendly, professional and fun. It was my first time snorkeling and they were very helpful and supportive. We swam with sharks, fish and saw 1 sea turtle! We were also able to rent a go pro. Trip of a lifetime for sure, highly recommend!

This was an excellent tour! The tour guide always made sure we stayed as a group in the water and made sure we were OK! I certainly would book this excursion again! It was well worth it.

Address for meeting point was incorrect. Had to scramble and make special arrangements. Luckily the Belizean people are friendly and helpful

So this became VERY PROBLEMATIC- the map on the VIATOR app showed us where to go-We even scouted it the night before. It took us directly to two side by side Diving/Snorkeling Tour businesses. 30 minutes before our tour was to start we walked there - the vendor said we didn’t have resv. and told us to go next door to other vendor. They too said they didn’t do tours with VIATOR. They said try a third vendor- (every time I called the VIATOR linked tour operator phone number I got no answer and no reply on the chats I sent that VIATOR App had- I even sent chat the day before to make sure the google map location on VIATOR was correct. The 3rd vendor was Amigos Del Mar. They were so helpful- they called the snorkeling tour operator we were booked with- long story short Amigos Del Mar read our booking number to him over the phone and obviously some conversation resulted in the gal assisting us at Amigos Del Mar said they would take our group of 6. So they took us out and it was INCREDIBLE. I CAN NOT SAY enough about the business Amigos Del Mar on Ambergris Caye. I’m not impressed though with VIATOR contact tour operator infor and incorrect MEET location- the booking was with Muy Ono Adventures and app showed Ambergris Divers Belize as the location- however that was the first location we arrived at and they said we had no reservations and that started the misdirected wandering of our group to finally arrive at Amigos Del Mar- so BAD REVIEW for VIATOR and Muy Ono Adventures and Ambergris Divers Belize but 10 STARS for Amigo Del Mar for getting us a tour.

I checked several times leading up to our tour date to confirm we had not received any messages, and there tour was not cancelled. When we arrived at the dive shop, the desk staff informed us our tour had been canceled. We were never notified. This was very frustrating and disappointing.
Thankfully the staff on site were able to add us to another tour leaving at the same time. We would have been so sad to miss this opportunity as snorkeling was the main reason we planned the trip.

Our guide, Choco, was great. The excursion to Hol Chan and Shark Alley was our best on the island. Adventurous, fun, great pics. So glad we included this activity on our calendar.

The Candyman was a fantastic guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He showed us things snorkeling that we never would have seen on our own. We especially loved swimming with the sharks. Great tour.
