One of the best tour providers out there
Christy_Z, Dec 2023
Everything was perfectly arranged with total flexibility including reasonably priced add-ons that you can choose from depending on your schedule and destinations. The transfers were smooth and punctual, the drivers were very friendly, fun and most importantly good at what they do. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience and well-organised

I loved the whole experience! Louise and the other tour guides were friendly and professional, and all the places were amazing! Hobbiton, Te Puia, Rotorua, and Waitomo - amazing sights, great hangi feasts, getting to connect with people. Our overnight accomodation and transfers were done with ease and clarity. 100% recommend.
Bad experience with FlexiToursNZ
estellekorsnes, Jan 2023
All the activities were very enjoyable but we could have had a much nicer experience with another tour operator. I would not recommend FlexiToursNZ, as they changed the itinerary without informing us. Rebecca the van driver who picked us day 1 at 6:30am was rude and unprofessional. We asked her why she was taking us to the Caves that morning instead of the next afternoon as we were scheduled and she said that's where I'm going. We asked her a number of times to call the office and find out our schedule and let us speak with the manager. She refused and whatever conversation she had with the manager did not get passed on to us She rudely told us to call the 1 800# but refused to even give us that #. We explained that there was no wifi on the van and we did not have phone service so could not find out what was going on. She was not there to pick us up from the Agrodome, which we added as we didn't know what else to do. The helpful young woman at the Agrodome did get in touch with the office about our pick up and gave us the 1 800#. We had to activate our phone service at an unnecessary expense to call the office. Phillipa said we rearranged the schedule and complained that since we didn't want to go to the Cultural Center she had to pay extra for our lunch. This was not true at all. In the end we went to the Cultural Center the next morning. The van drivers were much nicer on day 2 of the trip. After the trip Phillipa sent a message referencing her website with a statement about she has the right to change the itinerary. We booked through Viator and never looked at her website.

It is hard to answer a review which can only be described as a litany of lies and misunderstanding Let me address this in order - Late afternoon the day before the tour we emailed the client and explained that because of the weather forecast whitewater rafting on the 2nd day was no longer possible because of rising water levels but they could swap things around and do this on day 1. We also made the decision to move the Waitomo caves to 1st day to make they would have access to the caves as these have flooded and been closed on multiple occasions this summer. Our driver also had a laminated itinerary with our contact number on it which she tried to give to this client - who threw it back at her. My driver phoned me and said they do not want to go to Te Puia - do not want to do a tour which includes walking. There did seem to be clash between this client and my driver - but other passengers on this tour who were on the same overnight tour understood the changes were for their benefit and they were losing nothing. They have also verified that this client started objecting the moment they were told the order of events was changing. The more normal order is Day 1 Hobbiton, Te Puia, Mitai Day 2 free morning - Day afternoon Waitomo Caves The order this tour was scheduled for was as follows Day 1 Waitomo Te Puia, Mitai Day 2 free morning - Day 2 afternoon Hobbiton. I am sorry but even this clients daughter told her to be quiet when talking to me and acknowledged they had mis-understood what was happening. WE were doing our best to make sure all attractions would happen and to avoid missing the glow-worms because of potential flooding. I am sorry you did not take the time to read the email sent to you while you were in your hotel with free Wifi - I am sorry that because of this you did not understand what is happening. THere are 100's of reviews praising Rebecca so I am not sure why you and she did not communicate well with each other. Getting upset with a company that is trying to do the best for you is truly unfair
A great overview of the north island
Lynn_B, Feb 2020
Our tour was conducted by Flexitours. Over the course of two days, we were seamlessly handed off to four different guides, three of whom were outstanding. On parts of the trip, we were the only ones in the van so the personalized attention we got was amazing and appreciated. Hobbiton was delightful for the setting. and the attention to detail, even for visitors who might not be familiar with Tolkien. Rotorua will be especially interesting to those who have not seen Yellowstone in the US. Our accommodation and food were standard and quite adequate to the trip. We were glad to have done it all over two days rather than one long one.

Viator excellent again
lvartell, Feb 2020
Viator has provided exceptional service in each country and with each trip. The subcontractors they use are also of high quality. In this case they used flexitoursNZ. Great service, I left something on in one of the vans and with lots of logistics they got it back to me. The Mitai cultural show was the best cultural performance I have every seen. Each of the performers was passionate about showing us a little of the Maori culture. I would highly recommend this trip, it was great to stay overnight and spread out the activities.

Hi, thankyou for your great review. I’m glad you enjoyed your experience with us. Mitai does provide an amazing experience. We hope to have you travel with us again in the near future. Kind regards, Serhan
Very well organized and managed!
thelaine, Feb 2020
We were put on a different group for various leg of the tour as participants opted for different options. Yet arrangements were very good and we were always told clearly what would happen next. We liked everything - from Hobbiton, to geysers and buffet lunch (one of our best meals in NZ!), to the glowworm cave, except the Mouri (Mitai) traditional show - the dinner wasn't great, and it dragged on for too long. We do recommend the 2-day instead of 1-day tour though if you have the time to spare as the Thermal Wonderland is also worth visiting. Thanks to all the guides who were super professional and helpful - Chris, Fran, Ric etc.

Busy but beautiful

The trip was wonderful! Because of seeing so much in 2 days it was all in a hurry, but you can still enjoy the beautiful places you see.Hobbiton, Waitomo caves and Rotorua are amazing places, they are a must see. During the transfers you can see a lot of beautiful landscapes and the guides tell a lot of details about the sourrandings; being a small group you have the chance to easily know better the other passengers and the guide. The Maori show is very nice and interesting. The hotel was really nice. Overall the trip was very well organised.

Hi, Thank you for your review. Great to hear you enjoyed our overnight tours and were able to enjoy the sights and attractions as much as possible as you are aware it is a a lot to fit into such a short time which is why we take alot of time to plan these days to ensure you get as much as possible. We had a great time on our trip to Hobbiton, Rotorua, and Waitomo. I guess it's really a compilation of different tours, so you have different drivers/tour guides throughout. We started out leaving Auckland as a small group of 5 people and returned with a group of about 15. A well worth adventure.

This was a well organised tour taking in some excellent sites. There is not much spare time in the schedule and you should expect a lot of travelling so it may not be suitable for very small children. The hotel in Rotorura is good and, for us, the Hobbiton Movie set was the highlight. There is quite a bit of changing vehicles but all the drivers were very helpful and informative. Generally a good experience.

If you are a LOTR fan, this is a MUST. I loved it. You get to walk among the houses in the Shire. Great tour guides who explained everything. I highly recommend this tour.
This tour really tried to do too...
christopher e, Sep 2017
This tour really tried to do too much in a limited time. We enjoyed the trips to see the glow-worm caves, geysers and hot springs, mud pools etc, and the Rotorua Hotel was very good. The evening feast and Maori dancing were very enjoyable, but they also tried to include talks about Maori culture, which involved blundering through the bush in the dark, in a very large group more than sixty people so that many of us could not see, or hear the commentary, which in any case went on far too long. If the evening had ended with the meal, it would have been fine, The large size of the groups meant that the venue where the evening feast was held was jammed to capacity, so that one could not pull a chair out to sit down without asking people nearby to stand up.
